John Resa: walls closing in; air getting thin

That's gotta be how Chicago Democrats are feeling. Via ST,

John Resa -- a water department worker and HDO coordinator -- was charged with lying to a federal grand jury even though he was given immunity to testify about HDO activities and members. Prosecutors say Resa lied when he said he never went up the political ladder to help HDO volunteers land city jobs and promotions.

They are probably feeling a lot like Dick Cheney and his staff are feeling. Those guys will be serving long prison terms. I sure would hate to be Republican now, considering the number of Bush Administration officials that are going to end up being locked up.

The GOP will be forever destroyed by the activities of the Bush team. They were severely damaged in 2006, and it will only get worse in 2008. The Republicans will be lucky to finish in the top three in any 2008 races.

Speaking of jail time, does anyone know where I can get my Pat Quinn for 2007 bumper sticker?

Al Sanchez and Victor Reyes are soon to join him.

They are going up the ladder and alleging a scheme.

Will they RICO all of HDO funds and go back in time?

Will they indict Eddie "Munster" Acevedo or Senator Tony Munoz??

Inquiring minds want to know

How did anyone vote for any HDO candidates?

Why does the Mayor continue to support these clowns? especially after the violent acts of the Acevedo family or the drug dealing of Munoz's friend convicted Heroin dealer connected to the Columbian cartel George Prado?

Pat Hickey,
Where are you when we need you?
Are you going to defend these guys?

Not quite the stable social structure of Mount Greenwood or Beverly. The HDO aren't the Catholic school boys. More like the Latin Kings and drug dealers who are loyal to Mayor Daley.
Not quite the education of Burke or the Jesuit education of Billy Daley or the top of the class at Loyola law like Tom Hynes.

Patronage is part of Chicago and maybe part of human nature. But these guys really abused the process. They were the dirt of the Hispanic community. Uneducated. Gang ties. Drug ties. Violations of Shakman are the least of these thugs.

Maybe Sorich did not get personally enriched, but Victor Reyes certainly did.

These thugs put back Hispanic/Latino/Mexican/Puerto Rican/Others political empowerment back about a generation.

I do not understand why Mayor Daley tolerates this group HDO?

Susan, Daley loves the HDO as they deliver votes and keep the burgeoning Hispanic population in line. The HDO was key to developing a centralized patronage operation, replacing the ward organizations.

The word on the street is that HDO soldiers and regular precinct captains have the yips about circulating Da Mare's petitions and signing that sworn statement. Those statements could one day be subpoeneaed and use to hang some of these poor mopes.

I do not believe that Mayor Daley knows about the real bad aspects of HDO. Mayor Daley has been a good Mayor for the City and the Latino community. He may know something about patronage but he would never tolerate drug dealing or gang members--he was a State's Attorney and is personally a very moral man.

Daley has done a lot to get rid of corruption. David Hoffman is the new Inspector General. Daley got rid of Al Sanchez and Victor Reyes is no longer in government.

The City is newer, more modern, cleaner with a lot of development going on.

We are not saying HDO is good but that there is a bigger picture. Daley is trying to get rid of problems like HDO.

Daley's biggest problem with corruption is that he does absolutely nothing about it until it embarrasses him. Since he does not actively root out corruption his measures are always reactive and narrowly defined. The next Hired Truck could be festering and we won't know about it until the papers or US Attorneys find it.

Since most of these scandals have come from efforts to strengthen Daley's political operation, only the most naive or sycophantic would say Daley knew nothing about them. Daley may not have known the full extent of HDO's corruption but willful ignorance is not a valid excuse.

Hoffman's success will depend on how much backing he has from Daley. How high will Daley allow him to ascend the City Hall ladder to root out corruption? Will he end up like Vroustouris, who only caught low-level employees in minor schemes while the big stuff was allowed to continue unabated?

Vroutstias is a criminal joke. He either is grossly incompetent or part of the conspiracy and cover up.

If Dick Devine is an honorable man and good public servant how could he have hired Alesandr Vroustias.

But Devine never cared about the Mavros anyway.

Vroustouris did not accomplish much as Chicago IG, but it was due to a distinct lack of support from Daley as well as his own incompetence. I believe Daley engineered Vroustouris' hiring by Devine in order to keep him quiet.

Devine covered up torture and wrongful convcitions, he betrayed his faith, vows and family,
Hiring the former IG Alex the cover up man is just part of the duty of being part of the Daley mob
