Double Duece Circuit Court

28-year Circuit Clerk Bill Kays told those gathered to celebrate McHenry County’s having achieved its own one-county circuit court that they should blame newly appointed Associated Circuit Judge Bob Wilbrant for having inspired what he was about to reveal.

Wilbrandt came up with the "Double Duece" upon reflecting upon the new 22nd Circuit Court District's number.

Surely, the satirical 22nd Circuit Court seal that Kays unveiled will be the most remembered part of the ceremony.

When it was his turn to speak, Kays, known for his playful sense of humor, brought up two poster boards.

First came a short talk.

Then, he put up the new seal for 22nd Judicial Circuit.

It looks like a round wheel. Not quite a roulette wheel, more like a carnival wheel of chance.

There are a couple of dice prominently displayed in the foreground with double two’s on top and a four and a three on the front.

Above the dice is

Take a Gamble
on Us!
Around the rim of the wheel one can read,
THE DOUBLE DUECE CIRCUIT

ARE YOU FEELING LUCKY?
Kays got the desired reaction from the crowd before he replaced his joke with the real seal--a much more prosaic one.

It features the Old Courthouse where I served as McHenry County Treasurer from December 1966 through December 1970.

Around the outside is on top is "Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit Court." On the bottom appears, "McHenry County, Illinois."
