And The Trent Lott Dubious Achievement Award Goes Too...

Assistant Democratic Leader Ricky Hendon, who in the words of AP Reporter John O'Connor:

"A veteran state senator made sexually suggestive comments to a freshman colleague Monday during the ritual "hazing" that occurs in debate over a rookie's first bill."

Fmr. State Sen. Mark Rhoads has some comments on my original post at Illinois Review.

The substance of his remarks was that this was stupid and childish. Moreover, this kind of behavior wasn't the tradition while he was in office. He suggests the leadership on both sides needs to step up and ensure this kind of thing never happens again.

Hasn't Illinois passed laws against hazing? ... Way to set the standard, Senator.

I didn't know they did this.

I wish I hadn't learned.

Unfortunately, it appears that Senator Hendon either needs to make quick use of the eye-care benefits in the General Assembly's health care package, or check to see if it covers treatment for foo-in-mouth disease!

Oh, one more note Senator. You snide remarks have probably guaranteed Axley election in November. I can't see any way for her Democratic challenger to win support of the large bloc of independent women voters in the 33rd District, now that you opened your mouth. I'm sure Senator Emil Jones and State Party Chairman Michael Madigan are thrilled over that development!

Idiotic though the Senator's comments are, to suggest that they will be the catylist for Axley's election is a stretch of epic proportions.

Y'all, the conservatives who frequented the now-gone Illinois Leader discussion groups made comments about Sen Axley's good looks back when she got the nod as Elk Grove Committeewoman.

Why are right-wingers such hypocrites? It's ok for conservatives to make rude comments about a woman's looks but not for progressives to do so?

Please.

I agree with Rich Miller: this issue probably has a lot more to say about conservatives' innate (but subtle, perhaps even subconscious) questions about race.

And, I'll go one step further and say the fact this news suddenly went statewide says a lot more about the lengths the GOP will go to in order to turn out free publicity for their candidates that may be in trouble (Dan Kotowski has a heck of a lot more name recognition in the district after the primary than Axley).

Cheryl Axley is indeed a very attractive woman and seems like somebody who is good natured and probably really knows how to party too. A couple years back, I used her legal services for a real estate manner and she did a great job with that too.

An interesting thing though is that I once did a web search of her name to try to get a phone number for her law office, and she apparently shares a name with a famous porn star.

I wonder if Rickey Hendon is aware?

You have no idea and you don't care...

Then why are you replying about it? Please learn more about the issues I brought up before dismissing and ignoring them.

Her reelection may or may not have something to do with the uproar. And the Illinois Leader was more than just a "chat room" -- it was a full-fledged website touting itself as "Illinois' Conservative News Source" and was where all the right-wingers of the day 'hung out' online.

another verbal gaffe by the magnificent (in his own eyes)Senator Hendon...no wonder folks take cover when he opens his mouth...I'm sure a couple of female legislators let him have a piece of their minds......now sit down and eat some humble pie...
