Election Day, March 21, 2005 Kane County, Illinois - Post 2
I made it. This Joe Pena, candidate in the Republican Primary for Kane County Sheriff, and I'm at his post election party over at Geneva's River Front Banquet Hall. Computer works, wireless works, so I'm ready to rock and roll here. I'd say there are about 30 supporters here. Pena says he thought it was a big turnout up north in Dundee because of School Bond referendums
Here's Ken Ramsey, Kane County's current Sheriff and a Capital Fax subscriber.
Update 8:07 No reports of problems with new machines here. All went well.
Update: 8:40 It's Phillips 53% Pena 46% with 31 of 223 precincts counted.
Update: 8:45 Ramey at 36% Fuestering at 33% with 3 of 19 counted in Illinois 55th District.
Update: 8:53 Schools... I follow these two: here and here; and I'm betting both fail.
Update: 9:19: A Kane County Board member just told me Aurora has their own election commission and count their own votes. When you look at Kane County's talley, it's minus Aurora. That's the way it's always been he said. Always some quirk to complicate things.
Update: 9:41: Look at the turnout here. You're hard pressed to find a precinct in double digits.
Update: 9:48: WGN just had Durbin over at Duckworth HQ. Glad I skipped that event. Like Duckworth but Durbin would have been hard to take.
Update: 9:51 I think that was EE conceding on WGN. Most of Dundee and Carperntervilles hasn't been conunted. Pena expects to take most of that. So still optimistic here.
Update 10:20: Watching the votes come in. It just tightened after this with Pena down 152 votes now.
Update 10:37 Pena just conceded. Disappointed.. Kevin Phillips is going to have a tough time.
