Ill. hate crime commission head wants Nation of Islam member on panel
Cross-posted on Marathon Pundit.
The Rev. Willie Barrow is the chair or the Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes. That's the group, with little fanfare, which saw Nation of Islam Minister of Protocol Claudette Marie Muhammad join its ranks last August.
Since her prominent role in Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam--an organization that can rightly be referred to as a hate group--became public, four Jewish members have resigned the hate crimes panel.
This morning, the Reverend Willie Barrow, the chair of the commission, spoke publicly for the first time on what is the top news story in the Land of Lincoln.
In a CBS 2 Chicago exclusive, political reporter Mike Flannery explains that Barrow is sticking behind Muhammad:
From that story:
"Not only should (Muhammad) continue to serve on the commission, but, I think those that resigned because they disagree, what have they done to bring about an agreement?" Barrow said.
When asked if the commissioners made a mistake, Barrow said: "I think so. I think we should be able to talk things over. That's why we have wars."
Flannery left out one item in his report. For many years, the Rev. Barrow was the co-chair of the Rainbow/Push organization; Jesse Jackson and his pals have been cozy with Farrakhan for years.
As the Chicago Tribune (free registration required) noted in an editorial yesterday:
Perhaps only in Illinois could a government panel known as the Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes become roiled in an internal battle over charges of bigotry and anti-Semitism.
This whole mess is a political disaster for Governor Rod Blagojevich. Blago refuses to throw Muhammad off the panel. The best thing Blago has going for him is that he's a Democrat in a blue state--but his support his soft. Rod is up for re-election in November--and the Jewish vote is now in play.
And if Blagojevich tosses Muhammad overboard, he risks an African-American voter boycott this fall.
Blagojevich's admission that he didn't know that his appointee was a top member of the Nation of Islam, until he heard about it from the media, only solidifies the belief among many Illinoisans the Blago is a detached chief executive, uninterested in the details involved in running the nation's fifth most-populous state.
At this point of his gubernatorial reign, Blagojevich probably is wistfully recalling the good old days, when he was an unknown minority party back-bencher in Congress.

The Blacks are going to stand behind Farrakahan. What is interesting is that Blacks can day that "Whites" are racist or Republicans are racist or Kanye West can say Bush is racist BUT if anything says anything about Jews it is automatically anti-semetic.
If you look at a lot of African American popular culture and political subculture you see Spike Lee talking about Jewish exploitation of Blacks in Mo Betta Blues (with Denzel Washtington) and Rev. Jesse Jacksons more explicit anti-semetic statements (hymietown remember) but also an undercurrent of African American rhetoric of Jewish exploitation of blacks in law, currency exchanges, real estate, and music. Look at all the Jewish names on music royaltys and Black artists who dies broke. The White Afrikaner and Jewish alliance in the diamond trade and Nuclear proliferation is very interesting also. But no one can talk about these issues. Just ask Gus Savage.
The Little Warrior is losing it. Rev Jackson has his own Jewish problem that should be revisited.
It is Jacub not Jaku:
Name: This article covers the figure in the theology of the Nation of Islam. The name, also spelled Yaqub or Yakob, also applies to the Islamic view of the Biblical Jacob. See Yaqub and Jacob for information on the latter.
According to the Nation of Islam (NOI), Yakub (also spelled Yacub), was an evil scientist responsible for creating the white race — a "race of devils", in their view. Yakub created white people by a process of "grafting" from the original black population of the world. It took six hundred years for Yakub and his successors to fully whiten his creations. This was achieved under a despotic regime on the island of Patmos. The reasons for Yakub's actions are unclear. His progeny are destined to rule for six thousand years before the original black peoples of the world regain dominance, a process that began in 1914.
The doctrine of Yakub was first proclaimed by Wallace Fard Muhammad and was later developed by his successor Elijah Muhammad.
The name Yakub is a variant of the Semitic name referred to in European language versions of the Bible as Jacob or in modern Jewish communities as "Ya`akov". Fard Muhammad appears to have adapted the Biblical Jacob's role as the father of the tribes of Israel to reposition him as the originator of white peoples as a whole (including Jews). The idea that Jacob/Yakub was the founder of a deviant, corrupt people is probably adapted from late nineteenth and early twentieth century anti-Semitism, in which the concept of racial degeneration was commonplace. The notion that the Jews were an 'artificial' people arising from corrupt racial mixing is found in the works of Alfred Rosenberg and other racialists. Yakub's "grafting" activities seem to refer to the ideas of eugenicists, popular at the time. Though the NOI has had a history of anti-Semitism, the figure of Yakub generalizes racial antipathy to all white people, of whom Jews now form a sub-group.
In recent times, the so-called "doctrine of Yakub" has been rationalised within the NOI as an allegory for the evolution of whites from the original black-skinned human populations of Africa, and as a parable warning of the dangers of eugenics. Yakub's six hundred year experiment is seen as colorful storytelling, little different from the Bible's account of God creating Eve from Adam's rib, or the creation of heaven and earth in six days. In his autobiography (ghostwritten by Alex Haley), El-Hajj Malik Shabazz (Malcolm X) notes that, in his travels in the Middle East, many Muslims reacted with shock upon their discovery of the doctrine of Yakub.
African-American Playwright Amiri Baraka wrote a play entitled "A Black Mass" based on the doctrine of Yakub
On October 24, 1989, at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC., Louis Farrakhan stated that he had a vision of being abducted in 1985 by an invisible pilot in a UFO and carried up on a beam of light to a "human built planet" known as the "Mother Wheel." There the voice of Elijah Muhammad informed him that the President and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, under the direction of Gen. Colin Powell, were planning a war, which Farrakhan said he later came to realize was "a war against the black people of America, the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan." "I saw a city in the sky," Farrakhan said, after which the UFO "brought me back to Earth and dropped me off near Washington; over to Tyson's Corner and Fifth Street I think...to make The Announcement." Additionally, he has said his entire inspiration for the "Million Man March" is based on this "vision of being swept into a UFO that took him to a larger mothership." (The Washington Post, Sept. 18, 1995, p. D3).
I want the hear what Obama has to say. Durbin too should crawl out from under his rock. Every Illinois Politician should take a stand.
and nobody cares about Farrakan's creation myths and everyone knows junk at best comes from hollywood.
What's crossing the line is laying the blame for Hollywood to a whole group of people, and at time when Jews face an existential threat from Iran.
Not to mention when Black Africans are anniliated and enslaved as we speak in Sudan.
That's really the intolerable thing here.
Mad World, Mad kings, Mad Composition ! King John, Shakespear
The whole speech touches on the sentiments comtemporary.
BASTARD
Mad world! mad kings! mad composition!
John, to stop Arthur's title in the whole,
Hath willingly departed with a part,
And France, whose armour conscience buckled on,
Whom zeal and charity brought to the field
As God's own soldier, rounded in the ear
With that same purpose-changer, that sly devil,
That broker, that still breaks the pate of faith,
That daily break-vow, he that wins of all,
Of kings, of beggars, old men, young men, maids,
Who, having no external thing to lose
But the word 'maid,' cheats the poor maid of that,
That smooth-faced gentleman, tickling Commodity,
Commodity, the bias of the world,
The world, who of itself is peised well,
Made to run even upon even ground,
Till this advantage, this vile-drawing bias,
This sway of motion, this Commodity,
Makes it take head from all indifferency,
From all direction, purpose, course, intent:
And this same bias, this Commodity,
This bawd, this broker, this all-changing word,
Clapp'd on the outward eye of fickle France,
Hath drawn him from his own determined aid,
From a resolved and honourable war,
To a most base and vile-concluded peace.
And why rail I on this Commodity?
But for because he hath not woo'd me yet:
Not that I have the power to clutch my hand,
When his fair angels would salute my palm;
But for my hand, as unattempted yet,
Like a poor beggar, raileth on the rich.
Well, whiles I am a beggar, I will rail
And say there is no sin but to be rich;
And being rich, my virtue then shall be
To say there is no vice but beggary.
Since kings break faith upon commodity,
Gain, be my lord, for I will worship thee.

The start of the NOI is shrouded in mystery--and controversy. Wallace Ford, aka Wallace Fard, was most liiely a New Zealander (half English, half Maori), who emmigrated to the US on the west coast around 1914. He was a door to door salesman in Detroit about 10 years later.
His group, the Nation of Islam, drew the attention of the Detroit Police, after it was implicated in a ritualistic murder the press called "The Voodoo Murders."
Fard/Ford allegedly told the cops that the NOI was "a racket."
Shortly after the murders, Fard disappeared, and Elijah Muhammad took over.
