Veggie Tales & the Election

While we are talking about vegetables, what Veggie Tale character or story is appropriate for the 8th congressional district Republican primary election?

Do the French peas from Jericho come to mind? They are the defenders of the wall. I loved the scene when they sprayed slushies through a fire hose on Joshua and the other Israelites.

How about the story of Esther? (I heard the song, “For Such a Time as This,” on the radio yesterday.) Were any of the candidates called by God to run, even though it meant doing something he or she did not want to do?

Have any of the candidates had their lives changed as a result of being thrown into the firey furnace like Mr. Nezzer in "Rack, Shack and Benny."

And what about Madam Blueberry? Will any of the candidates come through this campaign having learned that “a thankful heart is a happy heart?” Or will the candidate be a "sad blueberry" because he or she did not get what was wanted? (Or thought "needed.")

Maybe some will have concluded that his or her foray into elective politics was a big mistake.

If so, they should remember the lesson of “Frankenstalk.” Things are not as bad as they seem.

There is your family after defeat.

Why, you could even start a blog like McHenry County Blog.

Now, that is scary.

What the hell are veggie tales? And Cal, you really need to get out of the house more.

You obviously do not have a young child.

Veggie Tales were produced by Big Idea Productions out of DuPage County. The firm went into bankruptcy after producing the full-length movie, "Jonah."

And, yes, you are right. I probably should be standing in front of the polls in the 34 degree temperature as the 30 MPH wind comes whipping across Crystal Lake supporting or opposing something or other, but it is really cold out there.

Veggie Tales, on the other hand, are warm and fuzzy.
