Paper refers to Sen. Meeks as Anti-Gay

Out Springfield (OH) has a story from the Chicago Free Press about Sen. Meeks' possible run for Governor. They point out Meeks was the only African-American Senator to vote against the gay rights bill, it also has this quote from Rick Garcia, political director of Equality Illinois.

"Anti-gay people have not been able to win a statewide race here in Illinois in at least a decade," Garcia said. "Meeks is very tied into the fundamentalist right wing. But those people he's in bed with -- they may be in bed with him now, but they will never marry him. They'll never vote for him. They're not going to go for a black man."
Tied to the fundamentalist right wing? Did I miss something here, I don't think Sen. Meeks would be considered right wing on the majority of issues. Also if the right wing had any issues with Meeks it would be on taxes and abortion not because of his race. The 'right-wing' will vote for an African-American and work hard for one, remember Alan Keyes. He did get some votes and won some counties and I doubt those votes came from liberals.

Senator Meeks is a fine man. He is religious, but that surely isn't unexpected in a minister. I have worked closely with him on issues and I have never seen him be anything but sincere and straightforward. To call him tied to the right wing is ludicrous.

Rick Garcia is the extremist and a liar. He said that if 101 passed that gay marriage was not next. Now he is supporting gay marriage.
Rick Garcia supported George Ryan despite his corruption because of just the gay issue. Rick Garcia cut a deal with anti-gay protestant Christian Don Stephens in exchange for Casino gambling and certain votes. Garcia supported Jim Laski who was anti-gay wanted AIDS testing and now is going to jail. Garcia only cares about one issue and he does not care about corruption or integrity.
He is an ego and media hound and hurts his own cause with the transgender, transexual and gay marriage agenda.

Sen Meeks is not right wing, he is however a Baptist minister, and the Bible clearly is not for homosexual behaviour.

Actually the right wing does have many blacks, JC Watts, the late Hiram Crawford in Chicago, Alan Keyes, the Mayor of Maywood, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice.

Most of the black ministers preach against homosexuality, just go to their churches. Meeks is not the exception.

This is precisely why there should be a separation between church and state. If the majority of christians were cannon, they'd adhere to the principle of being "separate from the world." Members of the clergy should recuse themselves from governmental affairs because involvement precipitates controversy. There should be no law against sexual preference; the constitution upholds HUMAN rights. We can't legislate morality... James Meeks is entitled to his freedom of speech, however, he faltered in his role as a public servant. Instead of impartially representing and serving all of his constituents, he's issued hurtful dictums unbecoming of a public servant...

What a list.
J.C. Watts: Retired.
Hiram Crawford: Dead.
Alan Keyes: National joke.
"Mayor of Maywood": Maywood? Even the poster does not know the guy's name.
Colin Powell: Considered by the real right to be a left wing looney.
Condi Rice: Failed to make the President understand that the memo about "Bin Laden Determined to Attack" was something he should spend some time with.

It doesn't really look like "many" to me, unless you thought that Keyes got "many Illinois votes."

Meeks is a good guy, so many of the extremist gay agenda want to stop freedom of expression and speech and do not respect legitimate faith based beliefs.
If you do not agree with the radical gay agenda than government should punish you and you should have no voice in the public forum.

I like Rev. Meeks. He's attempting to do good things on the far south side of Chicago. I may not have thought he should have ran for state senate with him being a reverend but I admire that he's sticking with his convictions. Besides he broke with Jesse Jackson and crew on his vote against this bill.

The gay rights so called movement is racist and a lilly white movement that does not equate with nor promote racial equality.

A right-winger would not propose hiking income taxes.

By removing posts, you are actively censoring and removing freedoms that US soldiers died to protect. You may not like what is said, but he has the right to say it.

Give me a break. Bigoted slurs are not necessary for political debate. And thank you, Oneman, for removing those posts.

Just wondering, anonymous 3:48: would those be the same US soldiers George W. Bush sent to die in Iraq based on a mountain of lies and forged intelligence?

The gay poster is manipulating Oneman into removing things he doesn't like. Weak.

The person talking about "fags" is probably gay and pro-gay but trying to make conservatives look bad. Also, calling Peter Labarbara gay and a "butpirate" is something that should be deleted.

Correction: A FRINGE right winger would never propose hiking income taxes. A true conservative would propose a combination of higher taxes and lower spending, in order to balance a budget.

Anon 3:48 PM, those freedoms refer to the government. The bloggers here have the right and the freedom to delete whatever they want. Deal with it or leave. Actually, better just to leave.

LaButtpirate is obsessed with gay porn. So much that he must be a closet homosexual. Why does he fill my inbox with the latest gay bath-house grand openings. I don't care, give me stuff that helps in my marriage.
