Brady used his chance to show class

Some quotes from his thank you letter.

My campaign ran a race that gained us widespread respect because we stayed positive, talking about the issues that affect Illinoisans today rather than attacking other candidates. We offered plans for tax relief, for bringing jobs back to Illinois, for battling the culture of corruption in government and for protecting mainstream conservative values that make Illinois strong.
and...
I attended the Illinois Republican Party’s Unity Breakfast Wednesday morning and pledged to support our party’s standard bearers – Judy Baar Topinka and Joe Birkett – and the entire GOP ticket. I hope you will join me in those efforts. We must unite as a party, we must come together as Republicans to defeat Rod Blagojevich in November. Illinois cannot afford another four years of Rod Blagojevich.

Again, my humblest thanks to all of you who supported me financially, who volunteered to make phone calls and put up yard signs, who offered a word of encouragement, who e-mailed friends and to all who voted for me and a better Illinois where we can ensure prosperity for our citizens, their children and their grandchildren.
I hope he runs for the US Senate.

Bill, thanks for the unoriginal post and thesis. I liked YDD's better.

Try to be original, huh?

I think he'll need to mend a lot of bridges. I know I am not favorably disposed to a spoiler for Judy.

He ran a good campaign and opened the eyes of a lot of people that didn't think he could get out of single digits. He was outspent and hammered by weather across his base on election day and still ended up around 20%. He also might have won more votes downstate than any other candidate....still trying to find that. THAT would be a story.

I think the late "a vote for anybody but Oberweis is a vote for Judy" mail piece really hurt Brady in the last day and sent fence setters to Oberweis for a last-ditch effort to take out Topinka. Unfortunate, but that's the way it goes.

I disagree though, Bill, that he should run for U.S. Senate. He risks losing before the next Gov's race. I'd like to see him re-elected to his Senate seat in '08, work to build on his established organization and his name ID in the 'burbs, and position himself as THE candidate in 2010. Birkett might be a problem, but four years is a long time. I just don't want to see him run against Durbin in a presidential year in a state that has proven to be so blue lately.

Mission accomplished. "Young Jim Edgar"

It's really nice to see how professional Brady is, it's a tribute to himself as well as his supporters all class acts. A well run race, but at the end of the day will whole heartdily support the nominee. Unlike Oberweis who is trying to set conditions in order to garner his support, he's ego might be just as big as his imagination...

Anon 8:46 has it right. Brady ran a good campaign and is in good position for the future. I agree, sit tight in 08 and let Obei take on Durbin. Set yourself as DA man in 10. Assuming JBT loses to Blago (a real possibility), Brady might have a clear shot at the GOP primary in 10 (except for Obie)

IF Judy gets beat; Birkett is done.

Talking to the pro life pro family leaders at the McSweeny lunch all agreed Brady is finished. He will be lucky to keep his Senate seat. People don't like to be lied too. He spent the better part of a year telling people things that turned out not to be true. Money, polling support...etc
