Whole World's Watching

Marathon pundit threw me back to 1968 but David Broder says the midwest will be the place to watch: Campaign 2006: Six Races to Watch,

But, at the risk of being contrarian, let me suggest that the most significant results of 2006 will not involve the Senate or House but instead will be found in six Midwest governors' races.

The campaigns in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin will tell us more about the direction of the country and the shape of the 2008 presidential battleground than any of the battles for Capitol Hill -- where incumbency advantages in both money and gerrymandering are likely to skew the results.
It may turn out the whole world will be watching us this year. Guess we'll need to watch our manners. I draw the line at ties. I'm back to 68 when it comes to that.

Articles like Broder's are a dime a dozen. It is all too easy for these columnists to fill column space with a bunch of predictions, knowing full well you can write another column with the opposite conclusions in a couple of months.

I don't know. I enjoyed the midwest being in the spotlight.

He is to late Topinka the Frontrunner? Not from the numbers I have seen so far. JBT sits @ 30% under if you don't count leaners. Stick a fork in her shes done! The only statwide office holder and shes in the 30's? Look for Oberweis to close fast in the next few weeks. There are 2 televised debates in January and a guy named Gidwitz who will spend millions (10?) to beat her. Wait till southern Illinois see the picture of JBT in the Gay Pride parade and the spot shows the "Rest" of the parade marchers!!! How will that play in the GOP primary in the south? Or north? How about the cool TV spot from ABC 7 where she is dancing with George I can think of hundreds of lines that can be used with that as a backdrop..
