It's not just pro-lifers revolted by Blagojevich's "executive fiats"

exec order.jpg

From today's Statehouse Insider in the State Journal-Register:

Some lawmakers, and not just Republicans, are getting concerned about Blagojevich's "Who needs the legislature?" approach to governing.

Can't get the General Assembly to go along with funding stem cell research? Hide money in the budget and then create a program by executive fiat after lawmakers leave town.

Can't get the General Assembly to ban junk food in public schools? Get your handpicked state Board of Education to do it by writing rules that redefine junk food.

Now we have keno, which Blagojevich says he can start without the General Assembly's approval. And the fact is, there appears to be no way to stop him, short of going to court. Both House Speaker MICHAEL MADIGAN, D-Chicago, and Senate President EMIL JONES, D-Chicago, support Blagojevich on that and can single-handedly block any bills that try to stop the governor - not only on keno, but anything else.

But why worry about the possible abuse of power? The important thing to remember is that it is no longer business as usual.

Maybe the voters need to give all three of them a new job.Madigan and Jones will do anything to keep him in power because they are power idiots also.

As long as Madigan and Jones are on board, nobody else's opinion matters. They are the invincible leaders of a party that will never relinquish power, since the demographics are their's and trending bluer all the time.

Chicago Alderman Eugene Schulter is hurting his candidate Commissioner Forest Claypool by getting too big for his britches and trying to make deals in races that he should not be involved with. Schulter promoted an all white machine slate with 19th warder Irish Terry O'Brien and clout heavy lawyer and friend and donor of Clerk Jim Laski and trying to cover it with a liberal veneer with art history major and canoer Debra Shore. Any hope for Black or Hispanic support by Claypool was lost because of Schulter trying to act like he was Ed Kelly. Schulter embarassed HDO and acted like the racist he was when he was with the Vrdolyak 29.

Madigan and Jones are old men and won't be around that much longer.
Their influence is temporary.

As to governing by fiat....most politicians will do whatever they think they can get away with to ensure that they are re-elected.
Apparently Blago and his aides believe that Illinois citizens are sufficiently passive that they can get away with bypassing the legislature on the gambling issue.

Will there be a citizen outcry against keno?

Probably not.

So, we deserve it. At least it's better than an income tax increase although unfortunately the keno revenues used for schools will allow other state taxpayer funds to be diverted to porky and ethically challenged agencies like DCFS and DHS.

My Executive Fiat broke down several times. I traded it in for a Bicameral Renault.

Watch for Madigan to pull a double switch. He knows his time is alomost up, but getting Rod out before indictment means Lisa is the favortie 2010 to get in the Mansion. This means his name and his family are in the loop until 2018 or longer depending on a third term or U.S. Senate Seat for her. If he has any brains,he will 1. Bail on Blago to get a Repulbican in to clear the path for Lisa. and
2. Retire prior to the 2010 election to ensure he can hand pick his replacement and avoid any conflict of two banches of government being run from the same dinner table.

Hopefully he is blinded by greed and self confidence and does neither.
