Blago Follows Telly Tubbies; Time for Blago Bye-Bye

Somehow it seemed appropriate that Governor Rod Blagojevich’s State of the State speech followed Telly Tubbies on Chicago's Channel 11.

And, having watched the end of the Telly Tubby show, I probably didn’t miss much by attending Crystal Lake Kiwanis, instead of watching the speech. They both bear a similar resemblance to reality.

"Time for Telly Tubby bye-bye," the announcer was saying as I left. Maybe Novemeber will bring, "Time for Blago bye-bye."

Those who did watch were Blagojevich’s Democratic Party opponent and his would-be GOP challengers.

What follows is what the GOP opponents said about corruption (Edwin Eisendrath's web site wasn't working.):

Ron Gidwitz -

Most conspicuous by its absence in the speech was any mention by the Governor of the culture of corruption that is ruining Illinois. Stories of Illinois pay-to-play political system have dominated the headlines and the political landscape for the past seven years.

Jim Oberweis -
The State of Illinois is in a state of corruption, a state of financial mismanagement, and a state of confusion, but there’s good news…reform is on the way.

Judy Topinka -
The Blagojevich legacy is broken promises, pension raids, massive debt and constant scandals. We need to make sure this State of the State speech is his last.

Bill Bardy -
The people of Illinois want honest leadership, not trumped-up programs based on political gain rather than sensible public policy. They haven’t gotten that from this administration, and they didn’t get that today.

So I read all of the releases and the striking thing was that only Brady talked about what he has done in office and what he will actually do when elected. Oberweis talks about reform...but we have no idea what that reform is. JBT talks about how bad Blago is...but still no ideas for change. Gidwitz makes accusations against Blago...but no real "public policy" ideas to note. We need to turn to the candidate who has an actual plan for this state...Brady.
