Tom Cross on the rate hike
Cross from the Trib,
House Republican leader Tom Cross of Oswego, siding with Jones, contended Madigan backed the freeze just because it was politically popular, not because it was responsible. For the ComEd bashers, please explain the wisdom of letting it go bankrupt and having Illinois take it over and operate it with an army of patronage workers.
"The politics that we're playing today is creating one of the cruelest hoaxes that we've done as a state in a long time," Cross said. "Everybody in this room knows that we can't freeze rates for the next three years and that it won't happen."
Update: like Cedric Giles.

Bill,
CONed will not go bankrupt. It is a gouging entity that will take whatever vault and pratfall necessary to keep Mail Room Frank Clark and Mr. Dithers Rowe in fat paychecks and bonuses, while diddling away at services.
Speaker Madigan's initiative is a great tweak of the bad guys' beaks.
Bill, do you believe that ComEd is only asking for the bare minimum it needs to survive?
Do you believe that if it gets anything less than it wants it will go bankrupt?
Carl, in all honesty, I don't know. But if people want to bash it, I think the fair question is why not make is government owned. Cleveland owns its own utilities I believe.
Same question I ask of all the Walmart bashers... if it's that bad a company, why not nationalize it.
Baloney. ComEd will not go broke. It's one of the most profitable utilities in the nation. Shame on you for refusing to acknowledge that.
Well do you have some numbers here for us anon? Educate Carl and I.
For ten years a privately owned company has been prevented from raising its fees. It is ridiculous to believe they do not need a rate increase. Everything else has gone up. The Jones/Cross senate bill at least phases the increases while recognizing the need. Everyone knew this freeze was lifting, why did they wait til now to address it?
