Tribune Irritates
So, why does it irritate me so when the Chicago Tribune uses its photographs to convey a political slant?
I should be used to it by now, right?
Today, there is a four-column photo of ex- and future 6th congressional district candidate Tammy Duckworth.
She’s the acting director of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Guess the subject of the article from its headline:
IDOT seeks to speak SpanishDuckworth’s role is described in the article's last paragraph:
Tammy Duckworth, acting director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, said that the jobs are open to all veterans, though she hoped the new jobs might help veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.Posted first at McHenry County Blog.

Cal, you think the headline should have been Duckworth says hire a vet instead?
This is what happens when you fall in with the wrong crowd. Remember, the Trib endorsed Duckworth for Congress last fall. If Duckworth is getting shafted by them now, it's probably because they resent the fact that she accepted a nomination that was clearly offered for purely political reasons: to boost Blago's credibility and to keep her name out there for an '08 rematch.
The Southern quoted Duckworth saying at Anna that she preferred a service position as opposed to politics.
She could have done very well in the private sector compared to what Illinois will pay her here.
She's giving Blagojevich great cover on Veteran's hiring so I sure hope she doesn't end up tarnishing her image in this job by associaation with him because she is chosing to serve and could be making bigger bucks elsewhere.
Political appointment or not, future run for Congress or not, Duckworth is very qualified to serve in this capacity.
If Obama vacates his seat in the next few years, either as President or Vice President (more likely), Blago will appoint Tammy Duckworth as Senator.
Duckworth is good for the job. People will realize Illinois has a DVA with her around.
Now the Senator speculation is interesting. Have you told Hynes about this yet?
