Chicago municipal elections

Next month the residents of the City of Chicago will determine who will represent them as Mayor, Clerk, Treasurer, and Alderman. I keep track of developement in the 50 wards thru mainly this website Aldertrack (you may have seen this on The Capitol Fax Blog sometime last year).

On Aldertrack you see all the candidates for alderman and right now you see who's petitions are being challenged, who's withdrawn, and indeed who might get knock off the ballot because of their petitions. And doing a rundown some aldermanic hopefuls who have objections against them have been upheld and may be removed from the ballot. And of course before the objections were successful some aldermanic hopefuls have withdrawn from their respective races anyway.

Another good thing about Aldertrack is the various websites for the candidates out there. I want to see if I can find anything unusual out there. That is well designed sites that I think should stick out for those of us who are design geeks. Sometime I don't think building websites are as much about flash as it is content. And there are some sites out there for those candidates running for alderman who needs work and too many don't have a website.

I'm really impressed with this website for James Villalpando who's running for Alderman of the 35th ward. He has the content thing down and not only that his website isn't something that you'd expect of an aldermanic candidate. It even has a fancy contraption designed to help him raise funds although no one seems to have used it yet.

I'm starting to believe this year's municipal election is going to be interesting. I'm watching the 7th ward mainly, but that isn't where the action is (mainly a contest between current 7th ward Alderman Darcel Beavers daughter of former 7th ward Alderman and current Cook County Commission William Beavers and Sandi Jackson, wife of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.). There are others that are worth watching such as the 8th ward (now that their former Alderman Todd Stroger is now the Cook County Board President). I also want to watch the 15th ward, where the incumbent Ted Thomas has retired and there is a big field there seeking to succeed him including a disgraced former Alderman who is a convicte felon seeking to get his job back. The 15th ward is said to have the largest field of candidates right now. And only a precious few Alderman (I think 3 or 4) are running unopposed.

Oh yeah I want to offer another thing. Kind of a joke and I've only heard this second hand. Apparently Rep. Jackson was making a speech somewhere and he was talking about these jobs. There are 50 positions available every four years. And they pay very well. Whoever he was talking to they were getting excited until they heard the next part, Chicago Alderman. At that point people started to lose their zeal.

Just a random story as we get ready for another election season!!!

Why would people lose their zeal over becoming an Alderman? We haven't had an Alderman murdered since Ben Lewis back in 1963. And the current US Attorney seems to think of Aldermen as guppies... too small to bother prosecuting.

We here at What The Helen?! like Aldertrack, too. What do we like even more than Aldertrack? We like telling people the truth about our 46th ward alderman, Helen Shiller.

You see, Helen likes to launder her campaign cash through the Wilson Yard TIF. She doles out taxpayer funded contracts to developers, and they give her cash in the form of kickbacks. Helen and Da Mare like to call it economic development incentivization. We like to call it corruption.

We also document the lies and gross misrepresentation of the alderbeast.

Local 46th ward constituents have even taken the time and effort to make some funny and issue oriented videos about Helen and her exploits. All of these videos are featured on What The Helen?!

Stop by and take a look.

You know, James Cappleman in the 46th ward is a fine candidate and a great person. You are doing him absolutely NO FAVORS by posting these horrific, childish videos comparing Helen Shiller to Castro and Lenin.

Do James a favor and tone down the vitriolic crap against Helen. You're just creating sympathy for her and you don't want that.

Hello Helen!

Nice of you to stop by the Illinoize blog.

You have been a great admirer of Fidel Castro, Che Gueverra, and Angela Davis in the past. What has changed?

How is Brendan doing?

John Harris fired Karina Sanchez on behalf of Victor Reyes.
But she may get her job back if she drops out of the race.

My prediction is Cardenas will win narrowly.

Yes, it is true that Carina (with a C not a K) got fired. She was told she could a) withdraw from the race b) get fired or c) resign.
She was originally told she could take a leave of absence (now she will lose her health insurance thank God for All Kids).
She was being intimidated into dropping out by political liteweight operative Dean Martinez formerly associated with Alderman Dick Mell. Dean better watch his law license and any subsequent investigation into why this happened and what the consequences are of having Victor Reyes influence him and scumbags like John Harris. But they are all afraid of the HDO caucus and their illegal immigration. They forced Ray Frias and others out of the race.
Indictments to come.
