Burt Natarus: Too Busy to Keep Streets Safe

Chicago Alderman Burt Natarus continues to feed public perceptions that he's out-of-touch with priorities of his ward. At a time when Chicago's murder rate is on the rise, and in the wake of a high-profile gun killing in the heart of the 42nd Ward, Natarus is telling the residents he represents that he's far too busy to keep the streets safe and ensure Chicago laws are enforced. Here's what Natarus said about the Ice Bar shooting of Chicago Bear Tank Johnson's bodyguard:

"Natarus said he's witnessed numerous problems outside the bar, including people with guns.

When asked why he never called 911, Natarus said: 'I could be in court all day. I could be cross-examined all day, and I'm not that certain, I'm not at all certain, I don't think the courts regard an alderman as a good witness.'"

It's seems like every time there's a microphone on, Burt finds a way to hurt himself, whether he's:
  • defending city corruption,
  • banning, unbanning, and then allowing the ban to stand on foie gras,
  • opposing clean indoor air standards,
  • attacking dog owners,
  • insulting women, blacks, gays or Asians,
  • fighting to protect the rights of strip club patrons to get their money's worth.

Given the extensive media coverage the Ice Bar slaying has received and continues to receive, and the strong support for gun control laws in the 42nd ward, Natarus' latest remarks could come back to haunt him in a big, big way.

Sorry Burt, it's time to retire your clown act at the City Council.

As the Alderman, he has better things to do than report crime?

As the Alderman, he has better things to do than shut down bars in his ward where people walk around with guns?

Of course, maybe he observed all of this while on the way to The Baton, which under a law he wants to see passed, will no longer qualify as "adult use."

For the record:

According to Natarus, he DOES HAVE TIME to support a bill that would allow cross-dressing strippers to be exempt from Chicago's adult use laws.

However, he does NOT have time to call the Chicago police to report illegal guns on the streets.

One more note on this:

Per Natarus:

Dogs in bars/restaurants: BAD. Need new law. Must stop this evil.

Guns in bars/on streets: O.K. No need to alert police.

Burt is insane.

Mike Liebert seems like a good alternative

Natarus is done. Brendan Reilly will be taking his place.

Why is Mike Kasper (the illegal challenger of petitions--check out the READER stories) involved in the Brendan Reily campaign??
and doing illegal, shotgun, frivolous petition challenges??
Isn't Mike Kasper the lawyer and pitbull for Speaker Mike Madigan?
Is Mike Madigan working against Natarus?
Do the good residents of the 42nd ward want Mike Kasper and his Venezuelan voter fraud machines or his connections to the drug dealer Hispanic Democratic Organization.
or his other conflict of interest legal and lobbying work
It looks like Brendan Riley is not a reformer but political insider pay to play bought and sold bozo being controlled by the big lobbyists and lawyers
