CHAMPION NEWS
-- Step 1 for an Illinois GOP recovery is giving Republicans back their vote - Doug Ibendahl
http://www.championnews.net/article.php?sid=1419
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: But here's the good news. That old guard is falling away, and this direct election reform is going to happen. It's only a question now of who decides to stay on record on the losing side of history. I know we're almost there when I see the biggest Democrat on our State Central Committee trotting out to warn that we'll get Democrats on the State Central Committee if Republicans get their vote back. It doesn't get much goofier or desperate than that. That would be Skip Saviano of course, that Chicago Democrat with the phony "R" by his name who has not only been the chief roadblock to direct elections as a State Representative - the guy's also one of those 19 who has been running our State Party into the ground for years. (To fully appreciate the astounding level of Democrat infiltration we have right now in our State GOP thanks to the current system, see here, here, here, here, here, and here.) A real campaign for a spot on the State Central Committee will force a healthy debate about the direction of our State Party - as well as what its role should be. With an Illinois GOP that's long been lifeless, I think that's a debate every concerned Republican should welcome. Let's see who has the best ideas and let's have Republicans decide for themselves who is best suited to lead.)

ACCURACY IN MEDIA
-- Global Socialists Toast Victory over America - Cliff Kincaid
http://www.aim.org/aim-column/global-socialists-toast-victory-over-america/
-- Republicans Invite Bad Press Coverage The Washington Times has a front-page story about House Republican Eric Cantor, who charges that “the Republican Party in Washington is no longer ‘relevant’ to voters and must stop simply espousing principles. . .” The story seems designed to help Cantor capture the number two position in the House Republican leadership. But deep inside the article we learn that Cantor “ended up voting for the Democrats’ [Wall Street bailout] bill.” Voting for the Wall Street bailout was completely inconsistent with Republican principles, as outlined in the 2008 Republican national platform. That document flatly opposed bailouts and urged the preservation of free markets. The problem in Washington is not espousing principles, it’s living by them. Cantor was out-of-step with the majority of members of his own party in the House, who voted against the bailout. But he still wants to be promoted to the number two position in the House, right behind Rep. John Boehner, the Republican leader who also supported the bailout. Boehner wants to remain in that post. Some Republicans like Boehner and Cantor now want to show they mean business when it comes to bailouts by taking a stand against $25 billion for the auto industry. The Times reports, “He [Cantor] said Republicans have to be able to draw lines on future votes such as an automobile manufacturers’ bailout, even if it means losing some of their members’ support.” After having voted to bail out bankers on Wall Street, how will it look to deny federal aid to American car companies employing ordinary Americans? Calling these Americans “union members” doesn’t change the fact that they are people and have families, too. Indeed, a significant number of them are Republicans, like Boehner and Cantor. This is another public relations disaster in the making for Congressional Republican leaders. All of a sudden they are going to rediscover their principles when jobs in the auto industry are at stake?" - Cliff Kincaid

AUTO BLOG
-- Heaven Forbid: A Corvette from Toyota? (DIERSEN: Beyond tragically, there seems to be no American industry that America-haters would not turn over to foreigners.)
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/17/heaven-forbid-a-corvette-from-toyota/
(THE POSTING: It's usually fun to speculate on what the future might hold, but this is one case where we're not so enthused. First of all, nobody in their right mind really wants to see GM fold (at least they shouldn't), regardless of the fact that it has been mismanaged for a good portion of its 100-year run. There have been some seriously cool machines that have rolled out of GM's various divisions, not the least of which is the iconic American sportscar, the Corvette. The 'Vette has succeeded where others have failed in providing a relatively inexpensive way for Americans to enjoy world class performance, and things have recently taken a turn for the better with the Z06 and ZR1 models. But, what would happen to the American classic if the General were to go bankrupt and couldn't recover? Would the Corvette cease to exist? This exact question is currently being contemplated by forum members at GM Inside News. One inexplicable suggestion is that Toyota would be the best automaker to take the reigns of the Corvette brand -- a theory that's been met with a fair amount of skepticism. After taking just one look at the latest 'Vette wearing a Toyota badge, we nearly shed a tear. The comments are open -- let the debate rage.

QUESTION: How will McCain respond when those who helped him and helped Obama win the presidential nominations demand that he and Obama issue a joint statement that assigns blame for the world's past, present, and future problems? How much blame will they assign to old, White, male conservatives who own American nameplate vehicles? 51%? 99%? 100%?
