Illinois Crime Commission's 'Tough Guys Don't Do Drugs Program'

Tough Guys Don’t Do Drugs – for starters. The Illinois Crime Commission tells it straight – tough guys don’t do drugs. Tough guys also stay in school; tough guys meet their responsibilities; tough guys do the job they were hired to do; tough guys respect other people.

Leo High School has joined the Illinois Crime Commission’s Tough Guys Don’t Do Drugs Campaign. Commissioner Jerry Elsner, who did not go to Leo High School, is a tough guy from down the street – Calumet High School. Mr. Elsner has received the support of the Illinois Principal’s Association and its 4,200 members. Leo High School President Robert W. Foster sees this program as a Leo program. Illinois State Representative Mary Flowers is a tough guy from our neighborhood and she is doing all she can in the Illinois House of Representatives to help train more tough guys – like her.

Leo is an all male school, but we know tough guys like Mary Flowers when we meet them. More than a few tough guys graduated from Leo High School:

Leo High School is school for tough guys – not drug abusers, not gang-bangers, and not lazy cry-babies.

Get to school on time, do your work, honor your God and your Flag, make use of your time by working to succeed, graduate from high school prepared to go to the best schools in America, and take your place as a respected American citizen. Those are Leo High School Traditions and they are the characteristics of a true Tough Guy.

The Illinois Crime Commission’s message to young women and men is the same – Be A Tough Guy. Here in Chicago and in Illinois being a tough guy is gender neutral but positive.

Be a Tough Guy. Get Involved in a Sports Program, a Community Service Program– learn the Rules; learn sacrifice; learn the thrill of accomplishment. Any dope can sling drugs and any weakling can hide in a gang.

Boxers are tough guys because they stick their chins out and dare anyone to try and hit them. They can take care of themselves because they are trained and prepared. They learned the rules and the skills that go with them. No one can take anything away from them because they own their own skills and have the hearts to use them in the right ways.

Leo High School welcomes tough guys – we are not coed so we are gender specific, but we honor all Tough Guys – Young Women and Men who take care of themselves. They don’t use drugs and they don’t hide in gangs.

What ever happened to the Leo HS - Orland Park thing?

Don't those kids already go to Providence or JCA?

The Men of De La Salle are still standing quite strong at 35th and Wabash (OK Michigan). No suburban moves planned...
