And then there were four
A Brady press release,
The second live televised debate between Sen. Brady and three of his Republican opponents will occur at 8 p.m. Friday, February 10, from the studios of WILL- TV at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.
[***]
Four of the five GOP candidates are scheduled to participate. Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka had agreed to the forum but later changed her mind and will not take part.
“We’re disappointed that Ms. Topinka has chosen not to participate. It’s valuable for viewers to get a side- by-side look at the candidates,” Paul said. “We thank the candidates who have agreed to participate.”

Does that mean there'll be an Andy Martin appearance?
Sounds like he's included. I had to do a google search to count 'em all... I had forgotten him.
It's the political equivalent of protecting a lead by punting the ball inside the opponent's 20 as often as possible.
If I were Oberweis, I'd now drop too, blaming Topinka. Being on that stage with Brady, but not Judy, doesn't do much for his "two person race" strategy, and just gives Brady another shot of exposure.
Anon 1:50 - that's a pretty fair point. Probably get a free press pop out of it too, where he could deliver the message he wanted - not answer questions someone else asked.
Is there any new polling supporting JBT's rose garden strategy?
Are Gidwitz, Oberweis and Brady getting desperate?
Martin has been certified bonkers. See In re Martin-Trigona, 55 Ill. 2d 301, 302 N.E. 2d 68 (1973).
Topinka seems to know this and wisely stays away.
Brady just picked up the endorsement of state Sen. John O. Jones of Mount Vernon.
That in itself doesn't mean a huge number of party workers, but it follows the endorsements of Brady by state Rep. Mike Bost and state Sen. Dave Leutchtefeld, further downstate.
It sure looks like the GOP establishment down here is taking a strong look at him.
So far, haven't heard much on what the county chairmen are doing.
If I were a Republican, Bill Brady would be the only candidate I could get excited about. JBT is annoying, Gidwitz is too wishy-washy, and Oberweis can't help but stick his foot in his mouth. I don't know if he would have the best shot against Blago, but he is the only one who seems to have a spark (perhaps it is just his relative youth though.)
I agree anon. I'm not happy with his gun control positions. But he is the only guy with any spark right now.
Maybe JBT crushes him with organization and name-recognition, or Oberweis or Gidwitz crush him with money; but right now he looks like the only one who could campaign against Blagovich with any kind of passion and conviction tempered with some practical sense from having worked in Springfield.
Judy must not like Champaign. It must be time to get the chicken suit out.
Can't help but feel ill when people refer to mental health issues with terms like "certified bonkers"...that never gets old. Look, I don't think Martin has any business in the race, but let's try to avoid personal attacks on the guy which may or may not have merit (do a little background research and you will see that the whole issue surrounding his bar denial is sketchy). Just out of curiousity, do you know anyone who has dealt with depression? Do you call them crazy or bonkers? It truly is sad when we reach the point that we lose sight of real issues and resort to attacks based upon a lack of understanding of real problems which impact millions.
