We don't want to pay for it but we will donate it?
The Trib has a story about how we donated the flu vaccine the state bought last year for $2.5 Million and don't want to pay for to Pakistan after a failed attempt to donate it to South Africa.
State health officials tried in August to donate the doses for use in South Africa, but the vaccine was not approved for importation by that country because the expiration date printed on the packages had passed.So we are donating expired vaccine?
It also seems to me we kind of have to pay for it now, regardless of what spokespersons for state Comptroller Dan Hynes have to say (read the story).

So from this information we can infer the following:
1) The U.S. FDA can test doses and figure out what is good & bad.
2) South Africans are smart enough to read the labels and figure out that it was for the 2005 flu season.
3) State of Illinois officials are not as smart as #2.
4) If the Pakistani's accept our "donation" what does that say about them. They are desperate enough to accept year old expired flu vaccine? Just because they had an earthquake that killed 25,000 people?

I am responsible for organising re-testing the flu vaccines in question.
They are safe and effective - I don't say so the WHO does.
Most importantly it is unknown what strain may/may not be dominat this season.
It is generally a bad idea to express opinion on a subject that you know nothing about.
