GOPUSA ILLINOIS Daily Clips - December 1, 2008

DIERSEN: Many foreign countries, many foreign companies, many foreign organizations, and many foreign individuals argue that America's future will be brighter if America lets them own and control everything in America. Outrageously, many politicians in America are increasingly acting like they agree with that.

CRAIN'S CHICAGO BUSINESS
-- Chicago's stake in Detroit - Bob Tita and Monee Fields-White
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/mag/article.pl?articleId=31026
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The collapse of a Detroit automaker would send shock waves through Chicago, from South Side manufacturers to northwest suburban dealerships to downtown TV studios. As General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC seek a multibillion-dollar lifeline from the federal government, many Illinois companies and workers are holding their breath. The state's stake in Detroit is huge: Illinois trails only Michigan, Ohio and Indiana in the number of auto-supplier jobs in the U.S. More than 80,000 jobs statewide are directly tied to the auto industry, government figures show, and one estimate puts the total number of workers with direct links to automakers at more than three times that number. The industry pumped more than $16 billion last year into the state economy through assembly plants, parts makers and car sales. If a Detroit automaker goes under, thousands of jobs will be lost, hundreds of businesses hurt and millions of dollars drained from the local economy. "I would hate to imagine the trickle-down effects of the job loss if these companies are allowed to just close up," says Greg Baise, president of the Illinois Manufacturers Assn. "It would have a much broader impact than it would have had 30 years ago.")

DAILY HERALD
-- DIERSEN QUESTION: How many illegals intentionally get themselves caught by ICE or turn themselves into ICE to get Americans to pay for their visits home?
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=254704
-- Dr. Sam Ho of United Healthcare: Preventing HIV is not complicated. Get tested as soon as you're sexually active. Don't use IV drugs or share needles. Abstain or practice safer sex. With preventive care, education and communication, you and your health care provider can fight and manage this disease. For more information, visit www.worldaidsday.org.
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=254168&src=
-- David Lundquist of Arlington Heights: Our village board should be ashamed of themselves. We are in the middle of a recession and they decide to purchase Toyota Prius cars for the village. Not only are these automobiles expensive, the profit from these cars does not stay in the USA. How can they look their neighbors in the eye? We have had two local car dealers close their doors recently, Joe Mitchell Buick GMC and Lattof Chevrolet. There are people in my neighborhood who worked at these dealerships. The mayor should ask these people what they think about being (environmentally responsible) right now. I find it hard to believe the board could not find a Ford, Chrysler or Chevrolet that would fit the bill. Buy American, the job you save may be your own.

BEACON NEWS
-- FROM THE ARTICLE: 42 of Illinois' 102 counties don't even have a Web site, and that's pretty bad. At least none are around here, but apparently technology isn't as widespread as we're lead to believe. In this area, DuPage and Will counties have the least "bad" points. Both get nabbed for not having contracts online. DuPage doesn't post any lobbyist info, while Will doesn't say whether it belongs to any tax-based lobbying groups.

YOUNGSTOWN VINDICATOR-- Don’t blame autoworkers for General Motors’ woes - Tim O'Hara (DIERSEN: Albeit briefly, I worked on the Chrysler assembly line in Belvedere early in 1970. I was a union member during the first 12 of my 29 years of federal employment. Democrats are overjoyed because tragically, some Republican elected officials and some Republican party leaders act like they a) hate everyone involved in the American automotive industry and especially hate GM, Ford, and Chrysler employees and b) want everyone to hate everyone involved with the American automotive industry and especially hate GM, Ford, and Chrysler employees. Needless-to-say, anyone who promotes hatred of people involved with America's automotive industry is not really a Republican.)
