http://www.southtownstar.com/news/kadner/1095710,080708Kadner.article
-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: If taxes are increased in Illinois so that an equal amount is spent on each student no matter what school district, then what will taxes be increased for next? Will they be increase so that an equal amount is spent for law enforcement per resident no matter what political jurisdiction? Will they be increase so that an equal amount is spent for welfare per resident no matter what political jurisdiction?
http://www.southtownstar.com/news/mcqueary/1095536,080708mcqueary.article
(FROM THE MCQUEARY COMMENTARY: New Trier spends $9,757 on each student's instructional costs, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. The district collects most of its money through property taxes, about $76 million in 2006. Homeowners in Wilmette and surrounding communities pay a small fortune in annual property taxes to sustain New Trier's world class education. Very little of the school's annual budget comes from state taxpayers - less than $1 million. The median household income in Wilmette is $195,879, with home prices averaging $1.3 million, according to the U.S. Census. Contrast that with Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, which collects $26 million in annual property taxes and $6.4 million in general state aide. Bloom spends about $7,590 on each student's instructional costs. The city of Chicago Heights' median household income, according to a 2005 U.S. Census, was $36,958.)

http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/newssun/news/1095506,5_1_WA07_HOUSING_S1.article
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new federal housing law signed by President Bush last week may increase affordable housing opportunities in Lake County. The law, aimed at stabilizing ongoing problems in the housing market, includes almost $4 billion in block grants that will allow states and local governments to purchase foreclosed homes and sell at least 25 percent of those homes to lower-income families and individuals.)

ASK A LATINA
-- No Minutemen Allowed, No truth told
http://askalatina.vpweb.com/default.html
(THE ARTICLE: The Chicago and Illinois Minutemen sat through the hearing at Chicago City Hall Tuesday August 5th 2008. We got there early 8:00 AM so we would make sure we could testify we left at 1:30 PM and by then only 4 minutemen were allowed speak. The meeting was called by pro-illegal alien lobby Chicago Alderman to beat up on our Chicago Police Department. 6 Minutemen wanted to testify on behalf of Law Abiding Citizens of Chicago and only 4 were called up to speak. While the crowd was filled with actual illegal aliens who were paraded with their children up in front of the aldermen and Chicago Police Officials. Some could not speak a word of English and had interpreters. The pro-illegal people were favored 2 to 1 to come up and speak. An African American man who wanted to testify against illegal immigration was denied the right to speak in favor of illegal aliens. Not only were illegal aliens preferred over American Citizens by the Hispanic City Aldermen. The Minutemen sat in the first row and while the Sun-Times and the Tribune wrote articles on this meeting, there was no report of our testimonies calling for an end to Sanctuary Policies in Chicago and No report of us defending the Chicago Police Department and no report that there was opposition to the Anarchy and lawlessness that was going on at the pleasure of the Open Borders aldermen. While we tried our best to defend our Chicago Police officers and the danger illegal aliens pose to their very lives, both Fran Speilman, Chicago Sun Times Reporter and Hal Dardick of the Chicago Tribune choose not to report what really went on and do not care to report both sides of the story. And people wonder why these papers are on the verge of collapse? They cannot carryout their main job, reporting the news. To take the words from Rick Beisada we realized we had all just attended our first Mexican Hootenanny. Nothing more Nothing less. God help us all.)

BLOOMBERG
-- McCain Embraces former U.S. Comptroller and Deficit Critic David Walker as Truth Teller - Lorraine Woellert
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aFi0AJthqc54&refer=home
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Presidential candidate John McCain said that, if elected, he would tap former U.S. Comptroller David Walker to help balance the federal budget, calling the deficit hawk someone who could help convey the ``truth'' of the nation's budget deficit to the public. ``He is the most articulate person on this issue of the debt that we've laid on future generations of Americans,'' McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee said last night. ``We've got to communicate more directly to the American people and tell them the truth.'' McCain was responding to a caller during a ``telephone town hall'' meeting with Pennsylvania voters. The Arizona senator took questions while staying at a hotel in Huntington, West Virginia. The caller said he was concerned about Social Security and Medicare and asked whether McCain, if elected, would be ``up to bringing in someone like David Walker,'' who also headed the Government Accountability Office. ``It's funny you mention David Walker,'' McCain said. ``I'm not a friend of his or anything but I saw his great work when he was head of the GAO.'' Walker, an assistant secretary of Labor in the Reagan administration, was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1998 to lead the GAO. A celebrity among fiscal conservatives, he left government to lead the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, which helps fund the nonpartisan Concord Coalition, a deficit watchdog group. This year, Walker has traveled the country on a ``fiscal wake-up tour'' to sound the alarm about the nation's spending woes.)

WASHINGTON TIMES
-- McCain takes lead on YouTube hits 'Celebrity' attacks against Obama amuse younger generation - Stephen Dinan
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/07/mccain-takes-lead-on-youtube-hits/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Paris Hilton may think John McCain is just a “wrinkly white-haired guy,” but the Republican presidential candidate apparently has figured out the younger generation just fine. Over the past two weeks, his “celebrity” attacks have stomped Democratic presidential opponent Sen. Barack Obama in YouTube hits. Mr. McCain has pumped out a series of brutal yet entertaining attack ads and Web videos mocking the press and Mr. Obama, and the combination of wit and insult has pushed his YouTube channel to the sixth most watched on the site this week. Mr. McCain has beat Mr. Obama's channel for seven straight days and 11 of the past 14 days, in a signal he intends to compete for the YouTube vote. That is a giant reversal. Mr. Obama had been quadrupling Mr. McCain's YouTube views and beat him every day since February, according to TubeMogul, which tracks online video viewing.)

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121807479191219317.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Detroit's fight for survival doesn't threaten economic doomsday for America, but it's incredibly sad nonetheless. The three companies, and General Motors especially, once symbolized the bedrock strength of American capitalism. If they can restructure and recover, as must be fervently hoped, they will symbolize the potential for renewal.)
