GOPUSA ILLINOIS Daily Clips - August 17, 2008

DIERSEN QUESTION: Over the decades, outrageously, certain Illinois Republican party leaders, candidates, and elected officials have been very critical of Illinois Republicans who support the Illinois Republican Party platform. Why aren't those party leaders, candidates, and elected officials critical of Obama and Durbin now?

TAPROOT REPUBLICANS OF ILLINOIS

OUTSTANDING: Pulido to speak today, Sunday, August 17, at the TAPROOT picnic in Westmont All Republicans are invited - Dave Diersen
www.gopillinois.com
(KOCAN PRESS RELEASE: Conservative activists from the DuPage County area will hold their annual picnic on Sunday, August 17, in Westmont. TAPROOT is proud to announce that our special guest is Rosanna Pulido, dynamic defender of US borders. In the past, Republicans like Joe Birkett, Jim Oberweis, Tom Roeser, Jim Nalepa, Patti Bellock, Bob Biggins, and John Cox “pressed the flesh” and addressed the crowd. Radio host and newspaper columnist Tom Roeser gave the key-note speech a few years ago. The Warrior Princess, herself, Teri O’Brien, regaled us with her commentary last year. The picnic will run from 2 pm to 5 pm, Sunday, August 17, at Twin Lakes Park in Westmont. It is on 55th Street between Fairview and Cass Avenues, at Williams St., in Westmont. TAPROOT will supply soft drinks and charcoal. Picnickers should bring their own meat, a dish share and extra chairs. Bring your friends. Bring your kids, they can play volley ball in the sand court. Contact: Dave 630-653-0462 or George 630-393-6401; www.taprootgop.org. Next TAPROOT meeting: September 20, 2008.)

America has done, is doing, and will continue do more to "help the disadvantaged" than any country that ever existed. Yet, outrageously, Obama gives foreigners one more reason to hate America. He demonizes America for not doing enough to "help the disadvantaged." - Dave Diersen
www.gopillinois.com
Everyone knows that since at least the 1960s, many laws have been enacted in America, many court decisions have been rendered in America, and many policies have been adopted by employers and by organizations in America that give preferential treatment to minorities and to females. Everyone knows that since the 1960s, American taxpayers have spent trillions of tax dollars to "help the disadvantaged." Yesterday, Obama gave foreigners one more reason to hate America and America one more reason to vote for McCain. America has done, is doing, and will continue do more to "help the disadvantaged" than any country that ever existed. Yet, outrageously, Obama demonized America for not doing enough to "help the disadvantaged." Everyone knows that the "disadvantaged" who Obama refers to are overwhelmingly minorities and/or females. Everyone knows that Obama and his supporters blame Whites and especially blame older White male conservatives for all the problems that minorities and females have. Everyone knows that when Obama demonizes "America," he is really demonizing older White male conservative Republicans. What everyone should know that what Obama is promoting is anti-religious -- what Obama is promoting is socialism. What everyone should know is that socialism will ruin America and then America will no longer be able to "help the disadvantaged."

DAILY HERALD
-- Hitting the rewind button on GOP Day - John Patterson
http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/385
(THE POSTING: Ok, attendance at the Republican rally at the Illinois State Fair was modest at best. A couple hundred. Looked like nearly all could have fit on a State Fair tractor trolley. But they were polite and listened. The Democrats packed the rally with bused in supporters. But no one seemed to be listening to the speakers. They held up their Obama signs with one hand while talking to the person next to them. Democrat Day had the feel of a mandatory school assembly. Republican Day had the feel of a memorial service.)

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=228088&src=
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Last year, Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie high schools, which serve Aurora and Naperville, began trying something new to close this gap, when little else has worked. They started all-black ACT prep courses. That raised some eyebrows, but the results speak of success. Great success. As we reported last month, roughly two dozen juniors who took teacher Natalie Johnson's class at Waubonsie during the 2007-2008 school year raised their ACT scores by an average of five to six points.)

BEACON NEWS
-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: As hundreds of empty and nearly empty buses ply DuPage County streets and roads, Democrats want taxpayers to spend even more on public transportation in DuPage County. Why are so many affordable but smaller and/or older apartments, condos, town homes, and homes near public transportation in DuPage County vacant? ONE ANSWER: Lots of people prefer living in something that is newer and/or bigger rather than in something that is near public transportation.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/17/automobiles/17MISERS.html?scp=1&sq=corvette&st=cse
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In this group, the Corvette stands out like Ted Nugent in a fur loincloth at an animal-rights rally. But for those seeking near-supercar performance, the Corvette can burn rubber without shredding your conscience. For barely $50,000, ’Vette buyers get a Ferrari-fighter than hits 60 m.p.h. in just over four seconds and tops out at a cool 190 m.p.h. Yet burbling along with the manual transmission in sixth gear, the lightweight ’Vette can cover 26 miles on a gallon of gas. Of course, if you regularly summon the car’s 430 horsepower you’ll pay for the pleasure. But when the road is long and your credit-card limit is short, it’s good to know that a Corvette can serve the cause of conservation.)

PEOPLE MAGAZINE
-- Cindy McCain at NASCAR Event: 'I'm a Lead Foot' - Sandra Sobieraj Westfall
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20216891,00.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Sliding out from behind the wheel of the tricked-out Corvette pace car at Sunday's NASCAR Pocono 500, Cindy McCain wouldn't say how fast she was driving – except to acknowledge with a wink that her miles-per-hour was in the triple digits. "I'm not going to tell you," she told PEOPLE. "I don't want my husband to know, primarily." The wife of Republican presidential candidate John McCain added with a laugh that her speeding habit is not much of a secret back home in Arizona. "There are a few highway patrolmen around Phoenix who know me pretty well," said McCain, 54, a trained racecar driver, who was sporting white Lucky Brand jeans and Chanel ballet flats. "Absolutely, I am a lead foot." McCain shared the grandstand at Pocono Raceway, in Long Pond, Pa., with 24 star Kiefer Sutherland. Earlier this summer, John McCain told PEOPLE that, as an avid fan of Sutherland's 24 character Jack Bauer, he hoped for the actor's endorsement. No word from either camp whether Mrs. McCain used Sunday's joint appearance to make a personal appeal.)
