GOPUSA ILLINOIS Daily Clips - August 13, 2008

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
-- SNEED: Jim Durkin, longtime friend of John McCain and state chairman for McCain's campaign, was recently appointed as the chairman of the Illinois delegation to the GOP convention in Minnesota next month.

-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: VERY SAD: Man hating Edwards apologist Paige Wiser demonizes men, especially male politicians, and promotes promiscuity, again. She outrageously argues that most, if not all, men are not capable of keeping their marriage contracts. DIERSEN: Ability to comply with the contracts you enter into is extremely important. An inability to comply with your marriage contract indicates very serious problems. It indicates an inability to comply with any kind of contract.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
-- Illinois GOP can't shoot straight - John Kass
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-kass-13-aug13,0,5245259.column
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party is so lacking in brains and backbone that it can't offer an alternative to what the Democrats are doing to the state and its taxpayers. They ran Tugboat Annie for governor in 2006. And a few months ago, the Illinois Republicans began what they called a "reform tour" of Illinois. Trouble was, while they were touring, big-shot Illinois Republicans kept getting mentioned in the Tony Rezko pay-to-play trial called Operation Board Games, about Democratic and Republican insiders using their connections with Blago's Democratic administration to leech onto state pension fund investments for huge profit and fees. The Republicans have not yet divorced themselves from the players. For some reason, the Democrats can be crooked and still get elected, but Republicans who stray lose their base. That conservative GOP base is lost in the wilderness, and those who aren't lost are jumping off their bridge to nowhere.)

SUBURBAN CHICAGO NEWS
-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: Why do so many buy homes that are located so far from where they work and shop? Why do so many buy homes where public transportation is not convenient? ONE ANSWER: Owning a newer home and/or owning a bigger home is more important to them. Generally, homes that are closer to where people work, that are closer to where people shop, and/or are closer to public transportation are older and smaller.
http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/genevasun/news/1101982,2_6_2_TC13_GRIDLOCK_S1.article
(DIERSEN: In 1978, the Diersens bought a home that was close to public transportation and shopping. For the money they spent, they could have bought a much newer and much bigger home if being close to public transportation and shopping was not a top priority for them. In 1984, the Diersens had a new home built on a lot that is close to public transportation and shopping. Were it not for the money they spent on the lot, they could have had a much bigger home built on other lots if being close to public transportation and shopping was not a top priority for them.)

THE HILL
-- McCain ignoring calls to cancel controversial fundraiser - Susan Crabtree
http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/mccain-ignoring-calls-to-cancel-controversial-fundraiser-2008-08-12.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Some Republicans say they understand why McCain is turning to Reed, despite his fall from grace. John Feehery, a former House GOP communications strategist who has bemoaned Abramoff’s corrupting influence on the party, said Reed maintains strong ties to Christian conservatives, a key GOP demographic McCain needs to attract. For instance, in the Indian Affairs Committee’s Abramoff report, Reed boasts of having contact information for 3,000 pastors and 90,000 religious conservative households in Alabama alone. “He is connected with Christian conservatives and he’s a pretty savvy political operator,” Feehery said. “This is the time when you’ve got to get all the forces in the party together.” Other Republican stalwarts agree, although they recognize the political expediency of the relationship. “There’s no indication that Reed did anything illegal,” said David Keene, chairman of the American Conservative Union. “I do find it interesting that the two of them are now getting together. [The investigation] was a cause celebre for McCain. Maybe that means McCain is forgiving his former enemies . . . I should get in line.”)
