(THE ARTICLE: Republican precinct committeemen have chosen one of their own, Shirley Rauschenberger, to vie for the Kane County Board District 20 seat in place of withdrawn candidate Larry Wegman, The Courier News learned Friday. Ruschenberger, mother of former state Sen. Steve Rauschenberger and wife of now-deceased, long-time county board member John Rauschenberger, filed paperwork Friday afternoon to take Wegman's place in the Nov. 4 general election, according to Kane County Board member Mike Kenyon of South Elgin. Kenyon said there are no legal issues with replacing one candidate with another, as long as he or she is nominated by a majority of area committeemen. Rauschenberger, 81, who is a committeeman for Elgin, recently met with her colleagues, regarding her candidacy, Kenyon said. Wegman pulled out of the race just days ago, stating in a letter that he needs more time to care for his elderly mother. If Rauschenberger's candidacy becomes official, she will run against Democrat Cristina Castro and Green Party candidate Julie Schmitt. Castro defeated incumbent Democrat Jesus de la Isla in the February primary.)

ILLINI PUNDIT
-- JULY 12, 2005 FLASHBACK: Kjellander v. Rauschenberger
http://illinipundit.com/2005/07/12/rauschenberger-v-kjellander
(FROM THE POSTING: I was reminded of this last week when I received a response from Illinois Republican National Committeeman Bob Kjellander to a direct mail fundraising letter sent out from my campaign to prospective Republican donors. Mr. Kjellander took the time to respond to the solicitation. Each of you has a copy of his response. His response, by the way, was discovered by my 78-year old mother who opens all of the campaign mail so I can assure you of the authenticity of this document, the original of which I have here. Mr. Kjellander's response, in addition to declining to make a contribution, was to offer the following comment, "Anybody who gets behind the wheel of a car drunk doesn't belong in the state senate, much less the governor's mansion.")

Were it not for the American automotive industry, we would not be speaking English now. We would be speaking German, Japanese, and/or Italian.
