Senate Looks to Give Governor Blagojevich Unlimited Authority to Sweep $530 Million from Special Purpose Funds

(Springfield, IL) -- Senate President Emil Jones' point person on budget matters, State Sen. Donne Trotter (D-Chicago), today unveiled an amendment to House Bill 473 that would grant Gov. Rod Blagojevich unlimited authority to transfer $530 million from the state's special purpose funds to the General Revenue Fund to pay down the deficit.

With this authority, the Governor could sweep money dedicated to programs like mental health care, developmental disabilities, etc.

The amendment has been assigned to Senate Executive Committee for approval. That means it is ready to boogy out of the Senate.

Here is another brawl with the House.
