Resko simmers 'til 2008 and the Grossest of Taxes

I'm still mulling the implications of this one.

Antoin "Tony" Rezko, once a top adviser and fundraiser to Gov. Rod Blagojevich, won't have to go on trial on kickback charges for a full year.

U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve set trial for February 2008 after Rezko's lawyer complained about the complexity of the case. The lawyer, Joseph Duffy, also expects to be involved in a major trial in Ohio next fall.

Duffy had sought a trial date of September 2008. Prosecutors had wanted the trial to take place in fall 2007.

The judge stressed that the trial date of Feb. 25, 2008, was a firm one.
IAM's Baise gets it right on the grossest of taxes,
"This will be the largest tax increase on the Illinois population since the implementation of the Illinois income tax in 1970," said Greg Baise, president of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association. "No matter what he tries to say, these costs will be passed on, whether in manufacturing or services."
Left right, progressive conservative, don't make much sense when progressives come out for a punishingly regressive tax like this Gov's going to propose.

Rezko will plead out once he fully understands what the government has in their case. Btw, a 02.2008 trial date isn't a good thing for Rezko, and in particular our Governor, and certainly not the Illinois Democratic party.

If this case does actually go to trial, think about the possibility of a guilty verdict occurring in say, end of September, 2008 or early October, 2008.

I just believe the guy will roll over, because if he goes to trial and loses, he could go away for a really, really long time complements of our Federal government.
