Campton Township's make over

Elgin's annexation of lands west prompted residents in the remaining unincorporated areas to get this initiative on April's Ballot.

We're simple and to the point in Kane County: supporters named themselves Preserve Campton while opponents rallied under Oppose Campton.

I'm a pro-growth guy for the whole West Side; from Canal Street to that vague line out west beyond where you can no longer find good Italian Beef.

But experience the traffic and schools out here though and you wonder if these folks have too much on their plates to manage it all.

Campton is a beautiful place...but let's face it, if the rest of the western suburbs developed in a similar manner, we'd be to the Mississippi River by 2100. Large lots, most homes on well & septic, near-100% dependency on the automobile, lack of municipal fire and police protection. If they would allow more compact growth in the future, and developed the services that will be needed to function in a modern society, I think the new village would be more successful. Otherwise, Elgin may be stretching their capacity a little thin, but they are at least a real city that could handle an expansion out to Rt. 47.
