Abolish the Death Penalty

The Trib writes an Editorial today telling Illinois to abolish it.

Given the pattern of police brutality and subsequent cover up, it's awfully hard to defend execution as punishment.

The legislature should abolish it.

For every person to be represented as an example against executions, there will be someone shown as an example for them. Make sure you click on each victim so you can read about every known woman killed by him.

Gish, I don't argue that there are people who deserve the death penalty.

I just think Illinois's displayed such a faulty system to deliver Justice, we can't trust Illinois to apply where it's deserved.

These cop abuse stories in Chicago have convinced me. I waffled around for a long time, but the Trib is right.

Judged through the eyes of victims and their families, every homicide is worthy of the death penalty.

We call that system of justice "Revenge."

I've sat on that side of the table. My best friend was murdered when I was 17 years old.

I would've preferred life in prison to the sentence his killer got: Second Degree Murder, 14 years.

Out in seven, expunged by Gov. George Ryan.

Not suprisingly, the abolition editorial fails to address the central question about capital punishment, which is are some crimes so horrific that the death penalty is the only approrpriate punishment? My answer to that is yes, therefore I could never support a ban on capital punishment.
