"Then As Farce"

A wise man once said that a political ad can sometimes inadvertently reveals more than was intended. Today's installment from the National Republican Congressional Committee reveals one thing clearly: The GOP is out of ideas.

For years the Republican party has developed and perfected campaigns based on the toxic combination of Fear and Tax-Cuts. But now, as evidenced by this bizarre mailer from the NRCC, the GOP's once-trusted union of Fear and Tax-Cuts now produces freakish, mutant offspring.

Year after year, the Republicans returned to the same political gene-pool: Fear and Tax-Cuts, Fear and Tax-Cuts. And by doing so, the GOP has produced a inbred child of a campaign -- one that is ugly, dull and witless.

There is nothing guaranteed except Death and taxes !!

To steal (and bastardize) a quote:

"Are you paying more in taxes now than you were four years ago"?

Will you be paying more four years from now?

Bill Baar 6:35 AM

Austin,

Are you and Duckworth some of these Democratic converts to a balanced budget? That Bush tax cuts have plunged the country into spiriling deficits?

If so, what do you propose to do if not reverse the tax cuts?

Skeeter 8:10 AM

What a typical ad from the spend and spend Republicans.
Hey guys, SOMEBODY has to pay for all your handouts.

It's only a matter of time before the lazy left claims this terror plot in London was created by Rove to help the GOP in the fall election.

Speaking of handouts...that's a funny comment coming from the party that gave us welfare...good one!

Anon 8.22,

Monthly expenditures in Iraq are running at $5.9 billion. Annual spending for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will reach $117.6 billion for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2006 -- 18% above funding for the prior 12 months. So lets stop pretending that welfare is the reason our nation is borrowing so much money from China.

And with regard to the possible terrorist plot in the U.K., I don't believe that any Democrat ever denied that al Qaeda remains a threat to the United States. In fact, that is why most of us thought it was damn foolish to pull troops away from the hunt for Osama bin Laden in order to invade Iraq.

Bill,

Unless I am mistaken, the only balanced federal budgets in the last several decades came under a Democratic administration. Remember?

Democrats are not converts to balanced federal budgets -- they have a virtual monopoly on them.

Only by reversing the massive tax cuts for the hyper-rich, the nation could take a first step in addressing our record debt to China like adults -- rather than merely trying to wish it away and ultimately passing it on to our children and grandchildren.

Bill Baar 9:16 AM

I know... and I don't like Balanced Budgets... I think they're miserly.

I like money a little lose...

I remember arguing in support of McGovern against Nixon with my Dad over this stuff.

I supported Bush's plan to borrow to fund Social Security Ownership accounts because he sounded an awful lot like McGovern's (James Tobin's) Demogrants plan.

Cal Skinner 9:23 AM

I think the theme could be adapted for the gubernatorial campaign.

But for which candidate?

GOP is just throwing money at the problem, something they must have learned from the Democrats.

So that's what happened to Casper after his show got canceled.

Austin
Clinton went to the balanced budget kicking and screaming with the 1994 GOP congress.

Bill where was the main attack on 9/11? It was the World Trade Center! They wanted to bring our economy down. We were in a recession after the Tech bubble had burst, the President buy cutting taxes has grown the economy by record numbers and stopped the country from going into a depression. Don't you guys remember anything? How much was the country in debt during WWII? We are in WWIII as the news headlines of today show. Tell me again that the president lied now how does the Democratic cut and run strategy look?

Bill Baar 12:52 PM

Bill where was the main attack on 9/11? It was the World Trade Center! They wanted to bring our economy down.

I know. I've argued this with the War Tax advocates. People who wanted Bush to raise taxes to finance the war.

That was exactly the wrong thing to do because UBL's stategy was to push a world depression.

Bush stimulated the economy instead with tax cuts, and gave us a pretty remarkable economy in light of the attack... tax cuts worked pretty well.

Tell me again that the president lied now how does the Democratic cut and run strategy look?

I've never said Bush lied. I've been his supporter since 911 and especially since the AEI speech where he laid out a Radical Democratic agenda.

Everyone was focused on the WMD argument but it's really the AEI Speech where it hit me at least Bush had a far bigger purpose in mind. He wasn't lying, but too few were listening closely to him.

So after having voted for Democrats unbroken from 72 to 90, (except for Socialist Zeidler in 76) I'm with the Republicans today.

I am just frustrated with the fact Dem's and some GOPers forget that we are at war!
What more do we need to bring us together as a country?

Anonymous,  4:00 PM

Anon 2:30pm,

What on earth does that have to do with the Republicans' comical Casper mailer?

Looks like a blow up doll if you ask me -- what would Freud say about that?

Besides, I'd rather see the tax levels we had under Clinton than see my kids paying off the debt the GOP is racking up with Red China to cover the Republican drunken-sailor spending addiction.

NW

The same is happening now except we are at WAR!!!!!! What was the dept during WWII? As I said we are in WWIII! If you look at it in the right context our dept for a country at war is minimal, very minimal! Because of a President that understood we were attacked in our financial district to bring down our economy we withstood a major hit and came back nicely. It was not just by chance you know.
BTW NW how stupid does it feel to be a democrat after the headlines today? Cut and run! Good thinking Ralm!!!

Skeeter 11:08 AM

Actually, anon, our country has always raised taxes to pay for wars and still has done pretty well.

Moreover, you still cannot explain the new prescription drug giveaway. Please explain how that is somehow related to the national defense.

Further, when you talk about "cut and run" you really should get your head out of your ass and read some real news.

The U.S. is currently, under Bush, "cutting and running" in Afghanistan where the Taliban -- remember them? They actually WERE connected to 9/11 -- are gaining strength, while at the same time the U.S. is mired down in a civil war in Iraq that is doing nothing other than giving the terrorists an easy opportunity to kill Americans.

Here's an idea: Stop writing your uneducated little rants and actually read some news.

Finally, before you call somebody "stupid" you should learn to spell "Rahm."

Anonymous,  1:26 PM

I know how to spell Ralm(Cut and run)
We are in Afganistan and not cutting stop listening to your radio America and get some real news. Talk about heads in your asses the whole Democratic focus on pulling out looks like what it was a political stunt , it has nothing to do with national security. If it would get your side elected you guys would leak top secret info to the enemie from the Senate floor. Oh thats right Durbin has already done that!

If your party is going to run against the American Military it is going to go down like the last 2 elections. Being anti American during war time is trouble.
