tell me this ain't so too
Today's Sun Times
Even our alleged corruption, with its family squabbles angle, makes Illinois look goofy.
A top Illinois environmental official has told investigators he "may have" warned a landfill owner that his state permit problems would not clear up until his relative, Ald. Richard Mell (33rd), patched up a feud with Gov. Blagojevich, sources told the Sun-Times.
The state official made the statement as part of a widening criminal investigation into whether the Blagojevich administration abused its power in temporarily shutting down the Joliet landfill last year. The Sun-Times is not identifying him because he is not a target of any probe.

Yeah, this pretty much seems like Illinois politics... hey man, we're the new south....
How sad. Blagojevich is even sadder...
"I'm going to stick to my responsibility, to protect the environment, protect the public safety and do my duty,"
How convienient.
This shows even more that this guy is power mad and instead of thinking he is a governor he really believes he's Stalin.
Blagojevich clearly overstepped his bounds and did nothing to protect the environment.
This seems to be Blagojevich abusing the power of his office to get back at his wife's cousin and the Alderman father in law.
Blagojevich abused his power.
Mell bad. Teddy clean up evil landfill. Rod give pre-school and health care. No Rod bad. No Rod good. Evil Teddy. No evil Rod.
And this story doesn't even mention that ridiculous piece of legislation that Halvorson carried for Blagojevich last year to ban fathers-in-laws of governors from owning landfills.
This is a gross and obvious abuse of power. To close the landfill was all about family politics and power over Mell and NOTHING to do with the environment or to stop nepotism. It is unfair and not fair to target cousins or whatever.
The Havelsron bill was unnecessary and a waste of ink.
Blagojevich probably broke the law, he may not go to jail but he should not be re-elected.
