The Reid Blagojevich Chat

The Sun Times story,

Days before Gov. Blagojevich was charged with trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder, top Senate Democrat Harry Reid made it clear who he didn’t want in the post: Jesse Jackson, Jr., Danny Davis or Emil Jones.

Rather, Reid called Blagojevich to argue he appoint either state Veterans Affairs chief Tammy Duckworth or Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, sources told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Shows how ignorant National Democrats are about Illinois if Reid would have a phone call with the Guv.

****
Blagojevich says Reid has conflict of interest
Not sure what...
...the conflict would be. But Reid sure set himself up for a knockout by the Guv.

****
Lisa Miscaro in the Las Vegas Sun writing on the possibility Reid will seat Franken from Minnesota and bar Burris at the door.
So Reid is left in the potentially incongruous position of calling for every vote to be counted in Minnesota while maneuvering in ways that could avoid an election in Illinois.

This is more fun than anything since color tv. Can not wait for the Durbin tapes.

I know...no word about if Durbin called the Guv. I have a feeling he would be to slick for that.

Turns out, believing the governor and sources close to him is a big mistake. Reid denied everything Sunday.

Sury, but he's not a very saavy Pol to have put himself in a situation on Dec 3rd with a guy like the Guv.

After all that's known about Blagojevich you have a "private" phone call with the guy?

You put yourself in a situation like this when your Majority Leader of the Senate? Where you've got to say I don't remember?

No smart Rich...

From the ABC transcript.

GREGORY: All right, but let -- let’s talk about those conversations you had with Governor Blagojevich. Apparently you made it clear that three men were not acceptable to you: Jesse Jackson Jr., Danny Davis, Emil Jones. And yet you just said Jesse Jackson would be fine.

Is that what you said, that these men would not be acceptable?

REID: This is part of Blagojevich’s cloud. He’s making all this up. I had a conversation with him. I don’t remember what was in the conversation, other than the generalities that I just talked about. I didn’t tell him who not to appoint. He’s making all this up to divert attention...
