Village of Campton Hills

Starting to get phone calls from folks saying the candidates for Campton Hills weren't on the ballot (either ballot as we've got this screwball double election going on in the 14th).

Headed for the polls in a bit and will let you know later.

Update: Today's Herald,

An error that prevented at least one man from voting on hotly contested races in Campton Hills has prompted Kane County election officials to remind voters to check their ballots carefully before leaving the polls.

"If they feel that their ballot isn't right -- if there isn't something on there that should be -- they should not press the vote button," County Clerk Jack Cunningham said Friday. "Once you press that lever, (the ballot) is irretrievable."

So learned Mark Gordon, a 10-year resident of the Campton Hills area, when he showed up for early voting Wednesday at Campton Community Center.

Gordon said he didn't realize until after he was finished voting that an election judge had given him the incorrect precinct ballot, which lacked races for eight offices in the village of Campton Hills.
Too many ballots.

Isn't this the newly formed village where a faction is running for the village board, in an effort to dissolve it? Where the village is fighting several petitions from property owners and subdivisions to disconnect from the village? And that it was formed to prevent forced annexation by Elgin, but now they are going after other land to the south and west?

Yep, that's us. I voted around 1pm... lines and it took a while to vote with two ballots.

I did find the Campton candidates by the way so what ever happened this am was resolved.

Voters received two sets of codes for each ballot... the regular and the special. My daughter forgot to vote on the second ballot because she forgot to enter the code to vote a second time.

If it turns out Democrats have a lower percentage of voters on the second ballot, I'm going to bet it's younger voters confused by this system.

It's a shame with the confusion of the 2 ballots, that people may not get their intended vote recorded. Knowing this, the county clerks could have devised a "simple as possible" system. Of course, your former US Rep didn't make things any easier, either, unless confusion was the goal.

Welcome To The Pillage Of Campton Hills...

I'm shocked, as a taxpayer, at how much money the VCH must be spending in legal fees. Lawyers aren't free. And who is paying? Oh yeah, me the taxpayer. With the economy in the tank and money in short supply on the home front, how can voters justify paying for another level of government we don't need? The mismanagement of VCH money seems like it verges on criminal.
