The Speaker Pile Drives Lauzen
The Oberweis-Lauzen race was a classic match up, one that Lauzen should have easily won.
Pitting a rich, four time losing egomaniac, against an experienced, Harvard educated State Senator seemed like a slam-dunk for Lauzen.
What went wrong?
The sad, ironic truth—Lauzen had the temerity and stupidity to speak for himself, while Oberweis lacked courage but possessed enough foresight to let Pascoe do the talk’in.
The result: While Jim whistled, Chris whined publicly that politics was a crappy business that had cost his family millions.
Great slogan—elect Lauzen, he hates his job and resents the voters.
It seemed that when Lauzen opened his mouth, another Bozo shoe would fall. He would compliment Speaker Hastert for his service but then rip him for being an an "insider" and imply that his health was ailing.
By insulting the Speaker, Lauzen taunted Denny into the race big time. So as Jimbo sat on the sidelines counting calories, the popular Speaker cut commercials, auto dialers and direct mail for Oberus Maximus.
While I had anticipated that Oberweis would spew his dysgalactia and earn another loss, I never imagined that Lauzen would happily douse himself in aviation fuel and start smoking.
But politicians are an odd lot.
They were either hugged too little or breast-fed too long, and although Lauzen may have been the better choice for the GOP to keep this seat, the Milkman finally delivered.

Your use of that photograph to illustrate the Lauzen/Oberweis race trivializes the years of public service by Terry Funk and Mick Foley.

LOL Austin. You too Shadow.
Think Senator CPA will endorse Obie annd work for him?
what went wrong? Are you kidding? What went wrong is that Lauzen has done nothing for his Senate District, publicly humiliated Denny Hastert over not getting endorsed, and he relied on the Political Operation of Jack Roeser. Last I checked Roeser's record of winning elections is pretty dismal. It would have been a total upset if Oberweis wouldnt have won
Sad Day. Senator Lauzen is the better man.
I personally like and respect Sen. Lauzen, but one of the marks of a "better man" is his graciousness in defeat.
In today's Kane County Chronicle:
Lauzen also questioned those who voted within his district.
“I am a little concerned that after 15 years of service that the people don’t [vote for a political veteran],” he said.
Public servants serve at the will of the people, and in defeat, a little introspection might be considered instead of growling at the ones who provided you a nice paycheck and pension.
Just a thought, and I wish him the best in his future endeavors.
where I come from, that's called whining.
I guess Lauzen should have taken those Rose Bowl tickets.
And add yet another loss to the column of the Goliath Slayer.
it wont be long before zahm blogs here defending himself and making excuses why he can't win any races.
The Nobody Slayer, a.k.a Jon Zahm, got the pile driver!
What a douchebag!
Who would you rather golf with; go to a ball game with; Oberweis or Lauzen ?
Who is less creepy? For a right winger.
I would take a the ice cream man.
Love the picture!
Love the picture!
I love the anonymous chickens taunting me. My Judge candidate lost by 200 votes in Elgin- we were grossly outspent and had to take on a sitting Judge.
We did defeat Jan Carlson, in office since 1964, backed by Hastert, Edgar, McConnaughay, etc.
Congrats to Drew Frasz and his friends, family and supporters. As George Allen said about defeating Daschle. "That one is worth 3."
That said, it was not a good night for me or the majority of my candidates.
Jon,
It is ok. In time the electorate will realize that their taxes are too high and the politicians that they elected may not really give care too much.
That is ok since their arrogance many times lead them to do the incomprehensible, leading themselves behing bars in the process.
Comfort sometimes will beget legal problems.
Jon
At least you won one race!!
What is your overall record the past 10 years?
over 60%- go to www.goliathslayers.com
ask the 28 year incumbent Mayor of South Elgin
the 8 year Mayor of Oswego
the 8 year Mayor of Barrington
the 12 year Kane Recorder
and many others if I have the ability to manage a winning campaign against an incumbent
who are you and what have you managed or done politically?
Jon, Get a life. And a new career.
When Foster beats Obie, Lauzen can make another go in 2 yrs.
Chris' win/loss record is still far superior to the Milk Man's.
The 8 year mayor of Oswego?
You mean Craig Weber who just lost? Or Brian LeClerq who just became Village President about a year ago?
Jon
I checked your website.. There you say you've won 70%. What is it 60 or 70? Plus, you don't list them. I think 60% is a gross exaggeration. Can you prove it?u List the ones you've won and the ones you've lost.. 70% is laughable.
Barrington is a Village. There is no Mayor; there is a President.
Roesser vs Obie, "Someone has to lose". I like Lauzen from the couple times I've met him. Sad that a desperate goof who wil say anything to get elected from one year and one race to the next, like Bi-Polarwies won the primary.
I think Lauzen is the better man and candidate. Sometimes the worse man wins.
"dysgalactia" Def - Disordered Milk Secretion
That is witty and funny
Zahm, you couldn't find your way out of a paper bag, let alone win a race.
That's why you're taking such flak on this site.
Lauzen is like "The Terminator" and he will be back. Lauzen is a good guy who simply never really considered Oberweis to be a "worthy opponent". That is why Lauzen didn't rush out to congratulate Jim Oberweis after his victory. Lauzen was just too stunned to believe what had actually happened.
Personally, I like Jim Oberweis but I too was shocked that Jim won. Granted, he had Denny Hastert out there begging for support for Jim and Jim (once again) had to spend a pile of his own money to get the job done but the bottom line is "Oberweis finally won something". Prior to this, likeable Jim was considered to be the perennial likeable loser that we all love but still laugh about behind his back. And, that is what hurt Lauzen so badly about this defeat. Chris Lauzen got beat by "a loser". Lauzen felt like the woman whose husband leaves her for another woman who is uglier and fatter than she is. She is hurt, devastated, didn't like salt being poured in her wound! Hence, Lauzen could not even fake being gracious in his defeat to Oberweis. Lauzen is too honest. It hurt too much.
Jim Oberweis is viewed by many (like myself) as being the guy on alley # 7 in the clean bowling shirt that we could easily identify with (although he had $50 million more in his checking account than we did). Lauzen (on the other hand) is not the type of guy that is willing to stop in a strip joint or the neighborhood bar to have a beer with the boys like Oberweis would (if you agreed to vote for him). Both are good guys but with vastly different personalities and styles. Lauzen is the aloof, intellectual college professor and Oberweis is the loveable and wealthy "Gomer Pile, service station attendant". Both great guys but different.
So, aaron, to make sure I understand your analogies:
Was the guy who left his ugly and fat wife for an uglier and fatter woman a good guy or a bad guy, or was he just a different kinda guy? Also, would your answer have been different if he'd left her for a prettier and thinner woman, or if he'd been an honest, less than honest, or kinda different honest person at the time he left his wife? How about if the guy himself had been uglier and fatter than both the women combined (or would that actually have made him a different kind of attractive)?
Just wondering because I think your answer to those questions will help me gain some insight regarding your commentary. Also, was this an attempt to explain what happened during the race to women since you seem to have such great insight as to how they think and feel?
I'll give you a detailed version of my record once you stop hiding behind being anonymous.
Mayor and Village President are virtually interchangeable terms but I know the legal difference.
I was LeClercq's advisor against the Weber/Cross machine.
Perhaps Mister Zahm, the political wizard and honorable man he professes himself to be, can tell us why he was once arrested for criminal trespass and why he was sued successfully for eviction, why he failed to get appropriate licenses for his ice cream truck over multiple years - and why he can not seem to stay in residence in a single location more than eighteen months without having to relocate - something he has done a dozen times in a dozen years. No truthful answer will deny any of these facts, for they are all proven and easily found for those who care to look. Mister Zahm is the epitome of a political 'animal'.
Another chicken posts defamatory information anonymously.
"Criminal trespass"- $50 ordinance violation that should have been dismissed. A mall cop gone power mad who did not recognize the First Amendment rights of political petition circulators.
Never been evicted. Counter sued the landlord that tried the eviction on me and he dropped the case. Property was not being properly maintained so I held back rent until the standing water in the basement issue was resolved.
The moving deal is an exaggeration. Lived at 803 Main Street in Maple Park from August 2003 to March 2008. Who are you, chicken? Want to schedule a charity boxing match so I can kick your butt around the ring for a good cause? Probably no, you are a coward.
