Fitzgerald's reappointment?
Pearson writing in the Trib on Bush's response to the Sorich convictions.
Wild... when you figure a month or two ago people on Illinoiz were making fun of Topinka's staff's comments that Bush should stay away. Now we have him here praising Daley.
The president replied, "I still think he's a great mayor. This is a well-run city, and he gets a lot of credit for it.""He's a leader," Bush said. "The thing I like about Daley is, when he tells you something, he means it…. I'm proud to call him a friend and I'm proud to have shared my 60th birthday with him."Bush as about as transparent as a person can be... I don't think he could lie if his life depended on it. His face shows every emotion, so without seeing this tape, I'm betting the briefly taken aback very real and Bush hasn't thought much about Fitz's reappointment.... yet.
Asked if he intended to reappoint Fitzgerald as U.S. attorney in Chicago-Fitzgerald's term as chief federal prosecutor here expired last October, and he currently serves at the pleasure of the president—Bush was briefly taken aback."
You know, I don't have any plans to reappoint him, because I haven't thought it. I want to think about it now that you've brought it up," Bush said.

That's 3 today Bill...let's remember the 2 post rule.
I'm shameless.
Hasn't thought of it?
Add that to the list, along with "What to do after troops reach Baghdad" and "How to catch Bin Laden" and "Methods of protecting chemical plants from terrorists" and "Responding to memo about Bin Laden determined to attack in America."
Skeeter, AL... that's right.. Terror, North Korea... I think he's got more on his mind than to worry about Fitz's reappointment.
I think he really hadn't thought much about it.
The general idea that I get is that Mr. Bush doesn't think much about anything.
I suspect he is far more concerned with his times in the mile than in national security.
Overall, I imagine him as a guy who gets very upset that ABC's Tuesday night lineup has been pre-empted for a Presidential News Conference, forgetting for a moment that he is actually the President.

Upon further review, I don't really understand Baar's comment.
Do we have any evidence that he has ever given any thought to terrorism or North Korea? Those thoughts sure don't appear to have resulted in action.
Bush has no real choice in the matter. If he doesn't reappoint Fitzgerald, it would look like retribution for indicting Scooter Libby. The political fallout for Bush would be too great.
Dear Skeeter, you are spot on about ABC Tuesday nights and POTUS. He alaways wants me to make the da-n phone calls to complain.
As for the other matter, you're right about that, too. But don't think that Karl and I haven't been thinking about it.

PS: BTW, who is this guy Sherman? I don't seem to have a file on him. Yet
Randall-
Not necessarily; he could kick him upstairs, with a more prestigous title but more controlled position within the office of the attorney general, or even appoint him to a seat on the bench; anything to get him away from prosecutions.
QUOTE FOR THE DAY:
I've reminded the Prime Minister -- the American people, Mr. Prime Minister, over the past months that it was not always a given that the United States and America would have a close relationship.
-- White House, June 29, 2006
He's a dandy!
Don't you people read he said he does not know if he will be reappointed "Special Prosecutor!" He continued "It is up to the Att. General to do that!"
Since it is up to the most Senior Republican in the Senate to choose the United States Attorneys (or the most Senior Republican in the Congress if there is no Senator) the President was talking about Fitz being Special prosecutor not US Attorney, the President does not have to reappoint the US Attorney he stays until the Presidents term is up or until they decide to leave.
He could let Fitz leave as Special Prosecutor and nothing would change here!
Maybe Bush is not that smart. Regarding his "as transparent as a person can be... "
If Patrick Fitzgerald goes, the Daley crew of crooks is back in business
and people will be able to murder, rape, and certainly steal without consequence
