Dan Proft on WYLL radio today

I heard Proft (filling in for Scott Thomas) say 2006 won't be 1994 because Gingrich was a Field General and Emanuel is an assassin (wish he would have used a different word but the point is Rahm is fighting the congressional elections one by one; without a national strategy. Proft was finishing an interview with Rick Garcia by the way when he closed with this thought.)

I have a bet going with someone on this blog the Democrats will implode (explode if you prefer) come 2008. One reason will they can't get it together like Newt. Here's Greenberg and Carville on the party. I think this was presented at the Take Back America 2006 Conference,

If the Democrats and challengers fail to show voters something more, this disillusionment could show itself in fragmentation to smaller parties and more likely, a stay-at-home protest. The current measures of potential Democratic turnout and enthusiasm are not impressive. And while it is likely that a low turnout election will hurt Republicans more than Democrats, a stay-away protest vote could also cut into the margin Democrats might have achieved.

There has been no improvement in feelings about the Democrats in this change environment; in fact positive views of the party have actually declined over the past few months, with negative assessments slightly higher than positive ones. [my emphasis]
Putting some distance between the party and Rick Garcia might be a nice start in Illinois.

Update: Froma Harrop chews out Emanuel too on Busby's loss to Bilbray and Busby's advice to illegals to vote... well illegally.
Which leads to some pointed questions for the Democratic Party: Is anybody home? Didn't someone coach Busby on how to handle the hot issue of illegal immigration? Does the Democratic Party have an intelligent being who can explain to the others that illegal immigration is their concern, too?
[***]
Rahm Emanuel, who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, played down the import of Busby's loss for the Democrats' hopes in November. Waving off the immigration issue, he said, "Not every district is going to be on the border of Mexico."

I have news for him. Not every district is on the border with Mexico, but just about every district feels like it is.

Bill - You may not like Rick Garcia, but most voters have never heard of him, and Democrats certainly can't blame their troubles on him.

My party's failure is it's inability to articulate a clear and convincing vision of who we are and what we stand for.

Say what you want about the GOP, they're for keeping women pregnant and in the kitchen, white power, and tax breaks for the rich.

While most people in America don't agree with the GOP view, their the Blue Light Special of Political Idealogies, cheap and easy to pick out in a crowd.

Ask Democrats what they stand for, and you get the 10 minute disertation, like I heard last night from Rahm Emmanuel. The GOP Response: "Democrats Stand for Higher Taxes and Bigger Government." Cheap and simple.

And democrats stand for keeping the poor poor. Why achieve, we will do everything for you. You keep dreaming that most don't agree, I prefer to look at the end results. While most people do not wholly support one party, people agree with the GOP more than the Dems.

This will not be 1994 for the Democrats for one simple reason...redistricting. There are far fewer toss up districts now as compared to 1994. This november, the pundits may talk about how the Dems have failed and were unable to match Newt's great achievement. But, they will undoubtedly fail to mention that the making of safe seats will be the reason, not a weak party.

Dan Proft is up to his eyeballs in alligators in the corrupt Cicero.
How could a good government conservative be working for the town of Cicero. It is ridiculously corrupt and racist.

YDD, white power?

Funny, show me what the Democrats have done other than oppress an entire class of people.

I love when Demcrats claim the mantle of race leaders then mock the GOP when there are African Americans in positions of power.

YDD, you used to bring insight to these discussions, now you're an ignorant fool, what happened????

Speaking of easy to find policies...what do the democrats off other than the same old nonsense?

Man, I can't tell you how disappointed I am in your postings...

Dan Proft is a superstar in Illinois Politics. The Cicero election shows what a political genius he is. I think he also has a chance of winning the Cook County Board seat for Tony Perica. Perica reminds me of Pat Quinn, all the Pols hate him but the regular folks like what he has to say.
"As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden"

Dan on the radio may be OK, but political advice? Get real and check out his win-loss record and his candidate's (Jack!, Keyes, Rauschenberger) performance.

On the other hand, Dan is up front--he believes in lining his pockets before the primaries, not after elections.

The fact that Bill thinks this is news is beyond comical.

Baar is right to hate Rahn,

I would hate Rahm too if he kicked my butt around on every election.

You are not from Illinois, are you?

Actually, people in Illinois thing massive government spending, huge deficits, and no civil liberties are bad ideas.

Republicans embrace those things, which is why the ILGOP is the biggest political laughing stock in America.

Not as big a laughing stock as you are Skeeter...I still can't figure out why you focus on the GOP so much...must be a closet conservative, that's my guess...anyway, isn't there more in your life than worrying about what others think/believe? God knows from your posts that no one is paying any attention to you...which is probably why you come here, see you probably have a lame job and boring life...hey, it happens...so you need to come here, make yourself feel better...whatever works I guess.

P.S. I look forward to you using the standard "use a real name" reply, that never gets old.

lame and boring life...

that's why we're in our PJs all day...
