Illinois Prison Drug Treatment Working?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

Note that Chicago Tribune David Mendell reporter says the yard stick being used to measure success is the percentage of those on probation arrested.

The rumor mill says that parole agents have been advised not to find prisoners who go through Sheridan's program in violation of their probation.

I don't know if that is accurate, but, if it is, the reporter might find a different perspective.

“...total arrests of parolees had fallen 23 percent over those three years,” is the official line.

I wonder what anonymous parole officers would say.

First off, I am inclined to agree with you.

Second, do we have a better metric? What other official stats could we look at?

Cal,
How is the drug rehab for Republicans going?
like STUART LEVINE
or maybe
JOE BIRKETT's SON

If that was a Black or Hispanic kid Jim Ryan would of through the book at him. Jim Ryan went to law school with Stuart Levine (roommates)--I can't believe there weren't early signs of drug abuse, and cross dressing and bisexuality like Stuart Levine did.

What if some Hispanic kid without a lawyer was in DuPage--what would he get if he said the pot was his friend and he was a good kid.
It would be No way Jose.

Rolando and Kunkle must be one of those parolees! Cal Hope it answers your question.
Who the heck is Jim Ryan? Even Republicans didn't vote for him in 2002. Did Birkett's son go through the program at Sheridan? NO! Then what does it have to do with this subject except it looks bad for your benevolent Democrat counterparts and your only recourse is to desperately bring up old, worn out, ancient and insignificant talking points!
Actually Cal, parole agents are overburdened, as their position is understaffed. I also have heard that they are under orders not to violate one's parole if they are of this program.

I work in corrections. I daily talk to parole agents. First there is a subtle difference between propation and parole. We are talking about parole. All convicted felons must be on parole for 1, 2, or 3 years upon release from prison, depending on what class of felony they were convicted of. Parole agents are currently facing an impossible task. Their jobs description is to make sure that parolees follow the rules of parole. Parole agents used to be able to violate parolee's parole if they didn't follow the rules. It was as simple as documenting the rule violations and hauling them to the cloest prison and locking them up until the Prisoner Review Board held a hearing to determine whether or not to re-release them or make them serve 1/2 of their remaining parole. Parole agent's supervisors have to sign off on the reports before the agents could bring them back to prison. Currently the supervisors are not allowed to sign off on the violation reports and send them back unless they are sentenced on a new case. Parole agents are charged with enforcing the rules of parole and have very few sanctions that they can use on the rule breakers. The current recidivism rates are artificially low because of these facts.

I am not a lawyer therefore I don't have enough knowledge about laws especially this concern that we are talking about. I saluted what the anonymous have said about the issue, it is for the sake of every parolees why such a parole agents need to do their job. And if the parolees really wanted to be free, they should follow the rules.
