UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL
-- Rift among Democrats running deep
http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2008/05/19/rift_among_democrats_running_deep/8297/
(THE ARTICLE: Some supporters for Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama say they will have second thoughts about voting if their favorite candidate isn't heading the ticket. "There's just been an attitude that if you aren't voting for Barack Obama, then you're a racist," Kathleen Cowley, a Massachusetts resident, told The Washington Post. "I just find that intolerable." Many African-Americans have complained about the negative campaign tone and accused the New York senator's camp of using Obama's race against him. Younger voters who support the Illinois senator said they are inspired by the man, not the party. The rift has gone on so long that the presidential candidates must use up valuable campaign time to heal the party instead of focusing on Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee. "You can't afford to leak away all of these Democrats come November," said David Paleologos, Suffolk University Political Research Center director. The Democratic nominee will have to solidify the base, he said, cutting into the time to reach out to independents "because first you've got to take care of business at home.")

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Immigrant activists led by Rev. Jose Landaverde describe the Minutemen patrols as racists, border vigilantes, a description that offends the Minutemen Illinois Dir. Rosanna Pulido. "Here we have a religious leader teaching other people who are illegal how to stop the free speech of an American citizen, and that offends me greatly," Pulido said. Pulido says her organization is not against immigrants, just people who break the law to come to the U.S.)

Towering, muscled youths and young adults donning flowing wigs, peekaboo dresses and platform footwear. Trim girls and boys sporting T-shirts and slouched low-riders. They strut, squeal, sashay. It's their coming-out party. . . Some black youths, she says, are meeting older men outside the neighborhood bars to engage in sex for pay. Drugs may be involved. "The hustle part isn't dealt with openly. It's hinted around at.")
