The Lauzen's letter to my family
Two pages of from a four page mailing we received today.
Given a choice between Lauzen and Oberweis, I'd vote for Lauzen, but my wife sure shuttered when she saw this. She can't stand to see Pols roll their famlies out like this.
Maybe it works in a GOP primary in Kane County, but I just don't know many families that look like this anymore. Or even if many families ever really looked like this.
It just seems awfully detached from today's world and I wonder if others will feel the same.

Bill, I too am inclined towards Lauzen but repulsed by the mailing.
Also in this mailer: Lauzen feels sheepish about his own lack of military credentials. This mailer is the second of his to trumpet the picture of his marine son. It gives the appearance that he's using his son's military service to cover for his own lack.
He is overdoing the family thing, and it is easy to see through.
This is pretty similar to a mailing they did in a previous race. It plays well enough in the GOP primary but will work vs. him in the general.
Anon,
How will it work against him in a general.
Assuming he wins, how is Foster going to use this mailing? If any Dem is dumb enough to go negative against a wife and son in the Marines, I would be quite happy.
That said, the schmaltz can be overdone. Lauzen is good enough on the issues that he ought to just run on them.
I've known Sarah for over ten years and have ALWAYS found her to be friendly to me and others. She has no temper and is consistently kind. To make such strong accusations is the worst kind of slander and is repulsive. I sincerely hope she reads this and files a law suit against this.
You should know that just posting "anonymous" doesn't insulate you from slander. It is possible, to subpeona the host of this blog and find the IP address of that sender which will have an actual home address. Thus, "anonymous" really doesn't mean "anonymous" if a lawsuit is filed
"14 CD" Vet, do you mean to say that the Senator should not be proud of his son, who graduated with honors from Duke University and enlisted as an officer in the United States Marines Corps? Wow, that is a hard concept for me to get my arms around; a Veteran who doesn't understand the pride a father feels because of his son's willingness to put his life on the line and defend our great nation, shame on you.
I've just found out from a friend about this blog. I can't believe that people could be so cruel to say things like this against a woman so respected and loved in our community. I think the moderator should consider taking some posts down. To questions someone's sanity and make those awful charges shouldn't be allowed.
So you don't like the mailing? Ok, fine but why spread your hate for others to read?
Sarah Lauzen is a class act. A loving wife and mother. A very smart woman who could do anything she wanted to, but has chosen to invest her life in her family. And it shows. Her children are really great young men. I've had the privilege of watching them grow up.
Shame on anyone who tries to smear this family for political gain.
Zahm, you are so thin skinned.
When I got this in the mail, I thought, is Sarah Lauzen running for congress? I thought her husband was the candidate.
I don't think anyone is smearing a family here; I think a candidate is hiding behind his family, using them as a campaign issue and a shield. Shameless.
This mailing is no big deal. Some will like it. Some may not, but they aren't going to hold it against Lauzen. No one is NOT going to vote for Lauzen just because of this mailing. And yes, the trash directed by someone above at Chris' wife is reprehensible. She's a very good person, as is Chris.
However, what is and will continue to hobble Lauzen's campaign is the horrible decision to put Denny Wiggins on the campaign payroll at 5 grand a month. No one has found a case - anywhere - where a county chairman has been put on the payroll of a campaign in a contested primary. It looks awful and was a stupid thing to do.
Wiggins is worthless anyway. The issue isn't going to go away. Even if Lauzen slips through in the primary (and he can because Oberweis has tons of problems of his own), it will kill him in the general. Lauzen should dump Wiggins and the baggage he brings immediately.
That's funny. An anonymous person calling me thin-skinned. I think what some people call thin-skinned, others would call ACCOUNTABLE. Please be accountable to your words.
I do not see Denny Wiggins as a liability. I can comment fairly on this because Denny and I have always been friendly, but never close. He is very well thought of in Aurora for his charitable works and his kind nature. I've learned that a lot of what he does is behind the scenes and for the right reasons. A lot of people in Aurora see him as a mentor. I don't agree with some of his past political decisions, but it seems that every year he makes better decisions. Endorsing Chris is a great decision. The money just allows him the ability to put time in behind the endorsement. Everyone has to make a living and he is being paid from a CAMPAIGN FUND, not a taxpayer payroll.
Sorry, was away from the computer a while and didn't have a chance to stay on top of comments.
Bruno got it right with this I think,
That said, the schmaltz can be overdone. Lauzen is good enough on the issues that he ought to just run on them.
Run on them Senator!
Something's wrong with you Zahm. I know you're paid by the Lauzen campaign, but you don't help the campaign by trying to defend the indefensible. Okay, so Wiggins has to make a living. What does that have to do with anything and how does that justify doing what looks horrible? The guy's a paid lobbyist for a home building group for one thing. And if he needs more income that badly, I hear McDonald's is hiring.
Lauzen can still win the primary because Oberweis and Burns have huge problems of their own. But Lauzen isn't Mr. Reformer anymore. If you can't understand that, you're a liability too.
I also love this "he's working behind the scenes" crap. Yes, it's so behind the scenes, it's all invisible. This Wiggins is a County Chair who has had close to half of his precincts unfilled by committeemen for years. Then he uses that negligence to help elect himself to the State Party's central committee. All part of the stealth campaign I guess.
By the way, what is the Lauzen campaign telling lower level candidates who now have no county chairman to work with for 3 more months? Don't you think it's kinda selfish for Lauzen to hire away a party official to only work his campaign?
Maybe you guys will hire the National Committeeman Bob Kjellander next. Oops, I shouldn't give people with awful judgement more awful ideas.
What a JOKE that the Lauzen supporters talk of a lawsuit. Typical.
