Illinois First - the band
Blogger Modern Vertebrate, who I should probably invite to post here, made an interesting find.
Have to plug a band I saw this weekend called Illinois First! -- they played at the Hideout in Chicago this past Saturday. Basically, they play songs about figures and places of note in Ilinois.
There are songs about Starved Rock, Nelson Algren, the Mormons, the town of Rock Island, and of course, George Ryan -- who is praised for his gun control and death penalty moratorium -- all historically accurate, with dates, names, etc. Sounds kind of dorky -- and it is -- but it's cool at the same time.
The group apparently has a slide show that accompanies the songs.
Anybody got a link to the band's site? I couldn't find it on Google, but I didn't really look all that hard.

Err, suggestions for future 'hits':
'Pardon me, oh John Peter Altgeld'
'Vandalia Means Capitol to Me"
