GOPUSA ILLINOIS
-- Schillerstrom blasts McKenna, calls for party unity - Dave Diersen
www.gopillinois.com
In a scathing letter (posted in PDF format on the Files page of www.gopillinois.com) dated June 12, 2008 and sent everyone who attended the 2008 Illinois Republican Party (IRP) state convention, Bob Schillerstrom, the Chairman of the DuPage County Board and the Secretary of the DuPage County Republican Party, blasted IRP Chairman Andy McKenna for "flagrantly (breaking) President Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment; 'Thou shall not speak ill about another Republican,'" for focusing on "divisiveness" rather than "unity," for "inferring that Governor Thompson and I were not good Republicans," for being "divisive," for making remarks that "are damaging to our Party and to our future," and for "attacking fellow Republicans." Schillerstrom defended his "conservative credentials" and pointed out DuPage County's fiscal responsibility, low cost of government, low property tax levy, AAA bond rating, low crime rate, and high quality of life. Schillerstrom concluded by stating: "Strength comes through unity. Abraham Lincoln said that a 'house divided against itself cannot stand.' I would hope that the Chairman of our state party would realize that attacking fellow Republicans only weakens us and takes away from the real work at hand; winning elections. Let's come together, as Republicans, to restore the pride and dignity to our party and to our state."

SPRINGFIELD STATE JOURNAL REGISTER
-- Demetra DeMonte: Optimistic Republican - Bernard Schoenburg
http://www.sj-r.com/opinions/x379967894/Bernard-Schoenburg-Web-site-critiques-governor-s-ethics-keeps-track-of-his-dealings
(THE ARTICLE: DEMETRA DeMONTE of Pekin likes to see things positively, and she says Republican presidential nominee U.S. Sen. JOHN McCAIN of Arizona “absolutely” has a chance to win Illinois over Democrat BARACK OBAMA, who represents Illinois in the U.S. Senate. “Illinois is going to be difficult,” said DeMonte, who will become a member of the Republican National Committee this September, “but I believe that Obama will be defeated nationwide. Obviously he (Obama) is the favorite son here, but . . . I’m always an optimistic person. I believe anybody can be defeated. “There’s so much time between now and the November election,” she added. “Anything can happen between now and then. He is a clean slate. We know virtually nothing about him.” In a sense, DeMonte had a come-from-behind win of her own at the Republican state convention June 6-7 in Decatur. She was chosen to replace long-time Republican National Committeewoman MARY JO ARNDT of Lombard. The 19-member nominating committee for her post at the convention gave nine votes on the first ballot to CAROL SMITH DONOVAN of Chicago, six to DeMonte and four to KATHY SALVI of Wauconda. On the second vote, DeMonte got a majority of 10 to eight for Donovan and one for Salvi. “My strategy was a second-ballot win,” she said, and it worked. She has said before that she wants to bring the kind of positive results to the state GOP that she has as chair of the Tazewell County GOP. DeMonte will take her new post on the national committee as of Sept. 5 – the day after the Republican National Convention. She plans to resign soon from her position as the 18th Congressional District’s committeeman on the Republican State Central Committee. The GOP county chairs in that district will then select a replacement on the state body. DeMonte’s deputy in the 18th is Stark County GOP Chairman MIKE BIGGER. Also at the state convention in Decatur, PAT BRADY of St. Charles was chosen over former state Sen. STEVE RAUSCHENBERGER of Elgin as the next Republican National Committeeman from Illinois. Brady, long a backer of McCain for president, will replace BOB KJELLANDER of Springfield after the national convention in St. Paul. ANDY McKENNA, chairman of the Illinois GOP, is the other member of the RNC from Illinois.)
