Taxpayer Suit Against Blagojevich for Putting Illegal Aliens on State Paid Health Benefits

Tom Roeser writes in the Chicago Daily Observer about a suit filed by Riverside attorney Richard Caro “to determine the constitutionality of a ‘de facto appropriation and designation of approximately $16 million’ by the governor.

Roeser describes it as

”An historic request for a temporary restraining order to prevent Gov. Blagojevich from expanding coverage of the Illinois All-Kids Healthcare act to persons not otherwise eligible.”
Details of the suit are contained in the article.

"Those children are not from here -- let those kids die." where is that quote from?

Skeeter 1:54 PM

My nameless (for good reason -- who would want to be associated with denying health care to children) friend:

What do you THINK will happen to kids if they don't have proper medical care?

JBP 3:28 PM

Sk,

JB Powers here from the Cdobs I don't see that quote either on the original or otherwise published. Did you just paraphrase it or do you have more info on that story?

JB,

It was not attended to be a direct quote. If it was meant to capture the essence of what was being said. It captured the true intent of the suit.

That being said, JB, do you agree or disagree that the claim by the person mentioned is to deny health care to sick foreign children?

Skeeter 3:49 PM

Based upon the question raised, in order to avoid confusion, the first post has been removed.

Sk,

My read of Richard Caro is he is a constitutional expert and good-government advocate, not a issue campaigner. He wants Blag to follow the Illinois Constitution, and is willing to file suit to see him follow it.

I used to work at Children's Memorial Hospital as the night admitting clerk. We had people coming from all over the world for medical treatment. (Legally, I might add.) Those people who came from outside the country were required to post a cash deposit for care.

Immegration status does not and should not be the gold card for medical care.

If I need medical care, I have to pay what ever my insurance does not. If you don't have insurance, file for medicare, If you are qualify for it, great, if not, set up a payment plan with the hospital or doctor. Negogiate with the care provider for a reduced bill.

I resent that my tax dollars are being used to support ILLEGAL immigrants.

If you are an illegal immigrant in any country, they will toss you out on your ear. If you are there legally, many countries will welcome you with open arms.

skeeter once again tosses a bomb for imflammatory reaction only. Get over it skeeter. Illegal is illegal. An illegal immigrant has no rights in the USA other than the right for the direct flight to the nearest entry point of their country.

Not only does the Governor promote providing health care under these circumstances, he promotes it in a flyer, on goldenrod paper, which is sent out to non-citizens, stating that they WILL NOT be reported to the INS if they apply for health care.

JBP 6:58 PM

A & D,

The case really isn't about immigration. It is about the Illinois Constitution.

Sk was off making inflamantory comments (which I am certainly guilty of myself), but he was gentleman enough to remove his meanderings and try to get to the point of the lawsuit.

yes I am for denying health care to illeagal children. It is costing tax money to pay those bills money that could go to the schools preferebly schools not overcrowded with illeagal children or maybe to transit so bus routes dont get cut. Maybe to job training for citizens whos jobs have been shipped overseas or for envirormental clean up to protect children from dumped chemicals and toxic waste. There is a limited amount of tax money and plenty of worthy causes give aways to illeagals doesnt make my list.

Skeeter 8:21 PM

Whether or not it was Caro's intent to deny health care to children, it is clear that those who support his suit feel that way.

That's tragic.

A civilized country should be able to provide health care to kids without asking whether or not the parents are guilty of some crime.

Civilized countries don't punish innocent children. People like "fed up" should be ashamed.

Sk,

The health system, as messed up as it is, always provides emergency room care, regardless of the customer.

Denying a huge, sure to be messed up, new entitlement isn't exactly "punishing" innocent children, nor is implicit that asking the Governor to occasionally follow the constitution is to be in favor of again "punishing" innocent children.

As long as the Illinois Healthcare Facilities Planning Board exists to prevent lower prices from reaching the Illinois consumer (or higher drug dispensation fees to big donors, for that matter), the State Government has 0 credibilty on healthcare issues, nor should 1 dime be spent on additional benefits till this criminal enterprise is removed.

Middle class and wealthy citizens from across the world can and should pay for their and their children's medical care here in the US. Just as we are expected to pay in their countries. And presumably even illegal immigrants residing here can purchase individual health insurance policies. Or their employers, who are profiting greatly from hiring illegals, can
buy group insurance for them.

As to those illegals who say they can't pay... why can't we bill their country of origen. Most illegal immigrants in this country are Mexican laborers. While liberals in this country like to portray Mexico as an impoverished
country in need of billions of American dollars annually, that is incorrect. Mexico (like Iraq, another oil wealthy country where we are spending not billions but trillions) is a wealthy country--the problem is distribution not poverty. Mexico, for example, has Carlos Slim, the world's richest man. And it's wealthy he earned in Mexico.

A civilized country should provide emergency care for all. But those Medicaid cards are blank checks for millions of dollars, forever. And we know the state doesn't check very hard to see if applicants are economically eligible.

At least let us deduct the cost of
free medical care forever for illegal Illinoisians from the foreign aid billions the country is showering annually on countries like Mexico.

I am not ashamed just like I cant give money to every charity that is deserving or food to every homeless person because I would go broke and not be able to care for my family. Illeagal is just that Illeagal go to a hospitalin your country of orgin. We as a people can not afford to care for and educate every that just shows up. We dont have money for transit or for education or pensions tell the vet who has had his clinic shut down that the money is going to health care for illeagals or the teacher trying to pay student loans no raise we have illeagals to care for. It is a matter of to many good causes and not enough money Illeagals are just that illeagal and they dont deserve taxpayer supported anything.

Isn't it interesting that most illegal aliens speak and write better English than "fed up"?

As an American I would gladly be associated with a measure that denies illegal aliens (child and adult) healthcare. If they want a handout they can go become an illegal alien of Canada and suck up their resources. As for America, this is the land of the prosperous. Work and earn. Pay for your own healthcare, be a citizen, or get out. That simple. Go back to mexico or go to Canada, I don't care, but your not welcome here. If they die in the streets due to a lack of free healthcare, lemme know, I'll volunteer for body collection duty and do so with a smile on my face. How many years after a measure like this do you think it would take for them to get the hint that they aren't welcome? 2 or 10, it doesn't matter, it will cost the legitimate tax payers billions less in wasted taxes feeding, educating, and caring for those that are not worthy of our dollars.
