Tallest Structure in Illinois Planned for Crystal Lake
Chicago may have its Sears Tower, but Crystal Lake may end up with the tallest structure in Illinois.
It will be a 1,500 foot tall television and radio tower.
The Sears Tower is 1,450 feet.
People can see 50 miles from its observation deck, so I'm guessing people throughout McHenry County will be able to see the planned behemoth.
The Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet.
The McHenry County College Board is planning to sell 3.6 acres for $6 million on February 18th, although no meeting notice has been posted on its web site. $1.667 million per acre.
More money than the $3.8 million it cost to buy 57-acres north and east of the current campus.
McHenry County Blog broke the story eleven months ago.
Folks sticking around for that top secret, hush-hush meeting were illegally ousted from the building before the executive session was completed, resulting in an Open Meetings Act violation suit from McHenry County State's Attorney Lou Bianchi.
McHenry County College has a disturbing history of springing big projects on the public with little notice.
The year before last it was a minor league baseball stadium, the financing of which would fall on the backs of taxpayers should the Frontier League minor league baseball team team fail.

In the photo to the left of the Eiffel Tower, you can see the size of the current radio aerial near the McHenry County College campus.
Thanks to Crystal Lake Heck of a Guy blogger Allan Showalter for the photo shopping.
