I'm Your Newest Noizemaker

It's time for an intro post.

I'm Dan L. Rich asked me several months ago to contribute here at ILLINOIZE. Because I'm occasionally dysfunctional with a computer, the invitation got lost, I forgot, he forgot, anyway - I'm here. The quick run around:

Who am I?
I'm a god fearin', Sox Fan, born and raised Sout' Sider. My dad is a 35 year veteran of CPD and my mom a librarian. I spent 20 years in Catholic Schools - from grade school to college.

Political Leanings
Tough one: I self identify as being right leaning on all this economic and foreign policy. I would identify myself as being left leaning on most social concerns. This is a local blog, thus you'll probably see my left side more. If I render an opinion that seems right, consider it a little spice. I am an unapologetic Daley supporter.

Where else can you find me? (or where might you have seen me before?)
I maintain my personal blog at Moveonandshutup.org. *Fair Warning* - I do, from time to time, use language that is quite blue. Over the last few months, my act has been cleaned up, but still there are some things that might be a little rough in the archives.

I frequently comment and occasionally contribute at the excellent blog Pam's House Blend.

Once in a while, you can find me running my mouth at GOP Progress, an organization which I whole heartedly support.

Assorted Other Facts
-I dabble in watching 46th Ward Politics. My girlfriend is a social worker in Uptown.
-No matter your political affiliation, you'll find a reason to like me.
-No matter your political affiliation, you'll find a reason to dislike me.
-From time to time, I'll pick on the local environmental movement saying that I drive a huge SUV. It's a lie. I drive a Honda CRV. I get 26 miles to the gallon.

Any and all comments/questions/rips will be entertained (or responded to in a hopefully entertaining way). Thanks for having me folks.

Thank's for having me folks.

And yes Levois, Uptown is an interesting place. It's just like Lakeview. 'cept, with crackheads...

pathickey 1:14 PM

Dan,

Does the 46th also take in Lincoln Square? That area is great.

IrishPirate 1:37 PM

Hey,

Lakeview has crackheads too. Uptown just has a greater number and our crackheads include elected officials. Depending on your definition of "crackhead".

Pat Hickey,

the 46th ward does not take in Lincoln Square. Its western boundary is Clark Street.

Head over to Dan's favorite Uptown Blog at www.whatthehelen.com

He likes to annoy us.

Thank'ee, Brendan! An' drink Damnation to the Commie hag and all her scurvvy crew and may they dance devil's hornpipe!

You like Mayor Daley? Why should I give a hoot about you then. This Mayor's administration is clearly the most corrupt and the most inept since voters ousted Big Bill Thompson back in 1931.

Where to start? The high property taxes that are driving lower and middle-class resident out of the homes that they have lived in for years or even decades? The abusive use of TIFs, without any real accountability, so that they have become a giant slush fund for Mayor Daley and his contractor pals? The total mess at the CTA, where Daley's hatchet man Frank Kruesi is more interested in starting outlandish construction projects (again helping only those aforementioned construction cronies of Daley) instead of doing something to fix service that is collapsing further each day?

The endless education shell games, designed to let gullible voters believe that progress is just an election away (while repeating that nonsense election after election)? The political infratructure under Daley, led by the goon squads of the Hispanic Democratic Organization? Do I have to spell it out further to you, sir? I hope not.

I am proud to have already cast my vote for Dorothy Brown for Mayor.

@Pat:
Lincoln Square is a bit west of Uptown. It's maybe walking distance. I've always been a fan of lincoln square. It's a little slice of sout' side nestled firmly in the north side.

@Irish:
I don't think I've ever set out to annoy you folks. Do I ask questions? Yes. I think I've been quite positive in terms of dialog, seeing as I am generally repulsed by the usual muckraking that goes on (see comment 2 below you). But I see you guys as different.

If you've felt annoyed by me in the past, I do apologize. Sincerely.

@Randall Sherman:
Nice to meet you, too.

Randall Sherman, just aquick question for you.Have you ever supported a winning contestant in any election ?

Dan L 8:45 AM

Ouch. Ddem's comment filed under "things that sting"

pathickey 10:35 AM

Dan,Old Son,

Randall is actually a pretty good guy and holds an unimpeachable opinion of the Tribune editorial Board.

Dotty Brown, Randall? For real? She makes Arenda Troutman look like a goo-goo.

fedup dem 12:00 PM

Reply to ddem: The question should be whether the Illinois Committee for Honest Government has supported the right candidate. Neither the ICHG nor myself supporting a candidate can guarantee the candidate giving a victory speech on Election Night; that is determined by the electorate as a whole.

If the ICHG wanted to, we could easily produce an endorsement list that won 90% or more of the races each and every election. The fact that often our candidates in key races do not prevail is due to the fact that they are facing an uphill but needed battle, one that needs to be undertaken without the guarantee of sucess.

In time, many of our "losing" picks in those races look like the right choice in hindsight. We just simply do not wish to spend a great deal of time telling people, "See, we told you so," as we could do already in the case of Todd Stroger.

Hi Dan!

Welcome to the fold. You sound snarky enough for me to like you ;).

pathickey 1:18 PM

Why . . . Ms. Dooley! Set you cap for young Dan have you , young lady?

I heartily approve!

IrishPirate 2:39 PM

Dan,

you have never annoyed me. Just my light happy Holly Golightly version of sarcasm.

You write serious stuff mostly and I can respect that. Even though you are probably a wee bit more to the right on national or international issues than I am.

People who annoy me are people like "Kevi" over at Chicagoist who write crap and badly write crap at that.

"Hired trucks" annoys me. Daley letting "Sorich" et al take the blame for something he clearly knew about annoys me. Dorothy Brown insisting she be called "the honorable" annoys me.

Triple J(Jesse Jackson JR) annoys me. Senator(Rev) Meeks annoys me. Luis "tiny fists of rage" Guitterez annoys me.

People who are capable of shoveling their sidewalks and don't annoy me.

People who glory in war yet never served in uniform annoy me. Most "celebrities" annoy me. Both Clinton's really annoy me.

The first Bush used to annoy me, but now he looks downright brilliant compared to his oldest spawn......who you guessed it........really annoys me.

At the moment Helen Shiller really annoys me. Check out www.whatthehelen.com if you want to see 500 posts or so on why she is annoying.

On February 28th her whining about losing the election will annoy me.

Me writing about all the annoying things I find annoying annoys me.

Did I miss anything?

Oh yeah. Bridget, get your alderspawn going apeshit video some better press play. I have no dog in the 50th ward race but Stone is embarrassing and needs to go.

Bridget 5:46 PM

Bettter press play: done.

Watch Channel 9 tonight. It just might show up there.

Carl Nyberg 11:52 AM

Right leaning on economic policy?

So you're in favor of cutting taxes on the rich, giving a bunch of money to GOP war profiteers and running up deficits?

The Right has no claim to fiscal discipline at this point.

The Right stands for looting the treasury to give the money to their interest groups. Anybody who doesn't see this is not paying attention.

Hey Dan!

Whaddayaknow??

Maybe now we can start directing some cleansing sunshine on our favorite ward and our favorite Alderbeast.

See ya 'round.

WTH

Anonymous,  12:22 PM

Also, check out Chicago Tonight tonight.

The Alderbeast, Helen Shiller, squares off against social worker and Franciscan Friar challenger, James Cappleman.

Let's see if the Alderbeast comes unhinged again. She did in the LWV debate, and she nearly jumped out of her skin during her Trib interview.

Follow all the action at WhatTheHelen?!.

Anonymous,  5:11 PM

Much happening at WhatTheHelen?!, Dan.

Video of an Alderbeast aide chastising the Irish Pirate for taking video of the Sec of State mobile "I need IDs Quick!" van in front of the Alderbeast's office, plus the aide does a little dance for Pirate.

Tune in tomorrow, when we provide video of Helen Shiller's "Pepperoni Pizza for Your Vote" fiesta at a local assisted living home.

This is the Alderman in all her glory, folks.

Shameless.
