GOPUSA ILLINOIS Daily Clips - October 28, 2008

Only 7 days until the election! Early voting ends the day after tomorrow!

DIERSEN QUESTION: How many American voters believe that government should increasingly negate the need for families, negate the need for religions, and negate the need for charities by increasingly taking more and more money from those who have more and giving more and more money to those who have less, that is, how many American voters believe in communism -- from each according to their abilities and to each according to their needs?

ASSOCIATED PRESS
-- White House celebrates Roosevelt's 150th birthday (FROM THE REPORT: Speaking in character, Roosevelt re-enactor Joe Wiegand said he was at the White House to celebrate his birth and not provide a hunting lesson - a joke referencing Vice President Dick Cheney. Wiegand also likened Roosevelt to Bush in the two president's responses to attacks on the country - the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901 and the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. "Your response and your leadership has been in the spirit of 'Speak softly and carry a big stick,'" Wiegand said.) (DIERSEN: I had the honor of serving with Mr. Wiegand on the Steering Committee of the Illinois Center Right Coalition. For more information about Mr. Wiegand, please visit:

http://www.suntimes.com/news/sneed/1245129,CST-NWS-sneed28.article
(THE ARTICLE: Mayor Daley's big worry: that Obama's election night rally in Grant Park could turn into a security nightmare. Consider: The Obama camp is expecting 70,000 people. Really? How about the 300,000 who showed up for a daytime Mass in Grant Park for Pope John Paul II in 1979? The shocker: How about 1 million-plus trying to get in to the park if Obama is as popular as his polls suggest? What if? Obama loses and tempers flare? What if the vote count is undecided that night and tensions mount? To wit: "Mayor Daley doesn't want a repeat of his father's nightmare: trouble in Grant Park during the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago," said a top source. "There is also tension amongst the police rank-and-file due to contract disputes and changes instituted by new Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis." A logistical migraine: Because the Obama folks insist the venue be in the open: Do you fence off Grant Park? Imagine the traffic congestion on Lake Shore Drive. The buckshot: Mayor Daley might be a big Obama supporter, but Sneed bets right now he wished he lived in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.)

-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: The Democrat Party exists to advance liberalism and the Republican Party exists to advance conservatism. 22% of likely voters say they are liberal, 38% say they are moderate, and 37% say they are conservative. If half the moderates vote for liberal Obama and the other half vote for conservative McCain, McCain should win 56% to 41%.

SOCIALIST WORKER
-- DIERSEN HEADLINE: The Socialist Worker asks "What's wrong with redistributing the wealth?" ANSWER: It discourages everyone from working harder. Worse yet, it discourages everyone, especially young people, from becoming productive members of society. You do not get into Heaven by making government a socialist or communist tool to take income and assets away from those who earned it so that government can "redistribute" it those who did not. The more that government takes away from you in taxes the less that you have to give churches and charities.

CARS
-- Does Your Car Predict Your Vote? - Stephen Markley (DIERSEN: THE ANSWER IS YES! Diersen, who owns two Corvettes and two Thunderbirds, is part of the "buy-American" crowd who supports McCain.)
http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2008/10/does-your-car-p.html
(THE ARTICLE: In "The Big Sort," author Bill Bishop describes how people tend to self-segregate by moving near others who are predisposed to think like them. One of the principles of his theory is that lifestyle determines a person's politics, and a recent survey conducted by Kelley Blue Book seems only to add credence to Bishop's argument. The survey's most surprising discovery was just how well the actual data hewed to Republican and Democratic stereotypes. By wide margins, domestic-car owners preferred Republican presidential candidate John McCain. The "buy-American" crowd broke down with 61% of GMC owners, 60% of Chevy, 58% of Buick and Dodge, and 57% of Ford saying they would vote for McCain. The Arizona senator also led in owners of luxury vehicles, including 52% each of BMW, Lexus and Lincoln owners. Meanwhile Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama dominated among small-import owners like Mini (70%), Subaru (61%), Saab 59% and Honda (50%). Vehicle segments broke down predictably as well with full-size truck, SUV and luxury-SUV owners all preferring McCain by wide margins, while Obama has the support of wagon and hatchback owners (including luxury wagons). The Illinois senator also did well with the luxury-crossover segment and hybrid owners, where he held a nine point lead over McCain. It's not hard to see how a car buyer's political priorities manifest themselves in the type of vehicle he or she chooses, but the question we have is this: Has your car predicted your vote? Do you break the mold? Let us know in the comments.)
