Blago Campaign Jumps the Shark

From the Herald & Review:

Gov. Rod Blagojevich lashed out at the Springfield press corps Friday, repeatedly calling them "sharks" while comparing himself to Abraham Lincoln.

The Chicago Democrat, making a rare appearance in the capital city to open the Illinois State Fair, defended his administration's handling of alleged corruption in state hiring.

But he would not take personal responsibility for the woes that have tainted his first term in office, instead blaming disgruntled state workers and the media for much of the problems he faces. ***

Rather, he said he's left the job of policing hiring to his inspector general's office and said that he would not take credit or blame for the hiring problems.

"Look, I'm modest. You want me to pat myself on the back? I'm not going to do that," he said.

Later, however, the governor compared himself to Lincoln during the Civil War, saying there have been "ups and downs" as he's attempted to reverse 26 years of Republican dominance in the governor's office.

"Not every military initiative from the Union Army was successful. It took awhile to kind of get that together and get it right. But the whole purpose of what they were trying to do was absolutely right, keeping the country together and then emancipating the slaves and providing freedom to millions and millions of people," Blagojevich said.
If you're in Springfield for the Fair, visit the Abraham Lincoln Museum -- and be sure to check out the exhibit recounting the time Honest Abe hid behind a crying baby.

The media is bad at times, very bad.

BUT Rod Blagojevich's behavior is OBSCENE. He hid behind and used his kid. He has no honor nor integrity.

Strong rope, a strong tree, and Rod is what they would of done in the days of Honest Abe

Target Rod is fair game but not when he is with his kids. He should get the treatment, but in a fair fight and not when he's taling his kids to the Fair.

These would be Drudge-holes should have their tiny little ears twisted by good editors.

They spit hockers and squeal like little rats that 'he's using his kids as a shield.'

After everything that her father has done to this state as well as her family, it doesn't shock me to see the Governor's actions driving poor little Annie to tears! It is both unfortunate and tragic.

hickey,
than he shouldn't have his kids with him when he is making it political and press are around
or have his wife or state troopers take the kids
NOT PICK THEM UP AND DEFEND HIMSELF OR MAKE THEM CRY

. . . Or tell Little Jimmy Olson to play with the sheep.

Anybody who knows Rod including me unfortunately is well aware that he is completely capable of using his child to try to spin out of the situation.

The more the press gets grills him the more he is going to lose it.

It's showtime.

Bill Baar 7:28 AM

My kids would have kicked the reporters in the shins.

"My kids would have kicked the reporters in the shins."

That's one reason why Blago's the governor and not Bill Baar. Only one of many reasons, I'm guessing.

The Sun-Times story suggests that Blago was not holding Annie when the questions started and that Annie was not crying when her dad picked her up. So is Pat Hickey suggesting that the questioning must stop or change direction when the questionee picks up his child? Seems like Blago grabbed his child for a reason; reporters can't be so easily deterred, and it's the father's fault for pulling the girl into that mess, not the reporters for staying on their jobs.

"Anybody who knows Rod including me unfortunately."

Prove it; who are you? You’re trying to strengthen your credibility with the claim that you know the Governor, but we don’t know who you are. You’re just another anonymous sh** stirrer.

It's been show time, but your canidate has yet to make the call. I'd say it's just about curtains for her campaign.

I've sorked with Blago alot. This is typical Blago. He get flustered under this kind of pressure and looses it. He often looses it with his vocabulary and uses strange words when his head is spinning or he is squirming. For example, "testicular viriulty."

they are doing the same thing to frank coconate, it is not nice.

Anonymous,  9:16 AM

Oh, silly me. I wasn't aware that you two were sorking.

Did you ever sork Judy?

Oooh, don't answer that.

"He often looses it with his vocabulary and uses strange words when his head is spinning or he is squirming."

I guess you do know him quite well.

I'm done with this one!

Two words for Blago the Reformer's behavior:
Unconscionable & Indefisible.

I meant Indefensible-geesh need more coffee.

B hicks has got his panties in a twist over an anonymous blog post? You should be "done with this one", not because the anonymous poster can't prove his bonafides, but because it's a blog post. None of this matters nearly so much as what happens on the campaign trail. Don't let blog predictions get to you -- they're not even worth the paper they're printed on.

I wouldn't put anything past this arrogant buffoon especially using his daughter as a deterrent. If he thought the press wasn't going to question him about hiring practices than he is as ignorant as I think he his, after all this is the same goof that went on the Daily Show thinking it was a real news program. I guess Comedy Central wasn't a big enough clue! Since these issues aren't going to go away anytime too soon maybe he can get a slot on the Oprah Winfrey show and jump on her couch to get attention (shades of Tom Cruise)!

At least Tom Cruise is a good actor, exercises and takes vitamins. My favorite is Chicago oriented Risky Business, Rebecaa Demonay.

Mell should slap the bitch out of Rod. If Mell can't do it from the heart problems and Rod has enough time to run marathons and stay in good shape, Mell should get some of those Hispanic gang bangers he has as precinct captains and give Rod a violation, a real old fashioned ass whuppin. Like the kind Danny "squirrel" Stefanski would of got from some real C-Notes after they beat the gaylords.
Then Mell should tell him NEVER TO DO THAT TO MY GRANDKIDS AGAIN.
and slap him (not in front of the grandkids)

Mell is probably regretting the day that Rod ever married Patti.
Rod is a disgusting human being.

When Blago was a state representative he would sit through hours of floor debate reading Abe Lincoln history books. It was the late Rep. Lou Jones that told him in loud and strong words: "Rod, you're no Abe Lincoln."

Lou was right then and its true today. He's no Abe Lincoln.

Dusty Blagojovich or Barry Blago should not have kids with him at the microphone. At least he made it back down south and isn't he missing a kid?

This jackass has spent millions in vicious attack ads on Topinka, filled with blatant distortions, and he has the gall to call the media guys "sharks" ?!?!??

What an egomaniac.

Anonymous,  11:16 AM

Pat Hickey - I agree with you. He was at the state fair with his family. I am not a huge fan of the guy but I don't think it is fair game to accuse him of using his kids for polical purposes in this case. Is he not supposed to ever be with his children when the press are around?
