Mary Mitchell: absence of African Americans

What strikes me about the City Hall hiring scandal is the absence of African Americans.

I know that sounds odd. But hear me out.
--Mitchell in the Sun Times

What's odd is that Mitchell thinks she sounds odd. Chicago's changed but it hasn't changed that much. That's what those columns for race were all about.

And there is no progressive politician out there telling today's Big Bill Dawsons it's time for a change. That's what's odd. They've all got their Carol Marin Daley blinders on instead.

Bill, that discrepancy will become more obvious as the investigation continues....a certain Hispanic org. is very nervous.

'Morning Gents! Race matters.

Whether it's criminally inclined hogs at the trough or getting a fair shake at Denny's.

Ike Carothers led the League in hits as I recall with 98 at bats and 38 hits. Not too bad. Didn't say whether those hits came off of errors or not.

Talking race relations in Chicago is like eating cotton candy through spun glass - you'd think that it would be good, but you never come away unbloodied.

1. Plenty of Blacks are in Daley's cesspool up to their ears. They just aren't allowed to RUN things.

2. Is she operating under the misimpression that South Side Irish Machine guys actually LIKE African-Americans, or want Black political leaders to be anything more than pawns?

Anonymous,

You're getting drool on your sleeve - hey, come on outinto the light of day - pull up a cracker barrel between Rubes and Bill here and really let us know what's on your mind.

Better stay in that cool damp place. That sunlight can play hell on a guy's skin.

I'll have to disagree I don't think there is any black pol who has as much pull as Bill Dawson did way back when before Richard J. Daley pulled the rug from under him.

pathickey 12:22 PM

Absolutely dead on, Levois. Rep. Dawson launched the careers of both Ralph Metcalf and Harold Washington. It is shame that more on William Dawson is not written.

From the Great Depression until the dawn of the Civil Rights Movement, he was the man to see and as much of a political force as any white power broker. He helped thousands of people.

Breaking the two rule limit again...and the posts aren't even that good. Geez.

This flys in the face of how much the Democrats do for thr blacks and how much the blacks owe them at election.

A nod out to two of the finest female columnists in the City-Mary Mitchell and Carol Marin.

Mary, waxing nostalgic about the lack of black crooks in the Daley administration and remembering the good old days when black folk fixed all the jobs, rigged all the contracts and controlled all the graft.

And Carol, demonstrating her complete lack of knowledge about how the City works by suggesting that Mara Georges was “of distinctly higher rank than any of the four defendants” because she answers directly to Mayor Daley.

Intergovernmental Affairs answered to nobody but the Mayor and Georges’s job was to cover for them. Until the federal investigation, IGA could care less about Georges and she did what she was told.

As for Carol patting herself on the back thinking she did a good job exposing corruption, I would suggest that she has been reading her own press releases. It is obvious that she was-and still is clueless about how the City ran. It is also apparent that her opinion is easily manipulated by various administrations.

Great job gals.

Mary Mitchell is always whining about the plight of negroes, yet they have made their own bed.

If you are a negro, you vote Democrat. Now they have to live in the squalor for which they voted.

Let them vote themselves out of it.

Ike Carother 29
17th ward and CHA
To a lesser extent:
Beavers 7
and
Stroger 8
Most of the other blacks including big vote producing wards got nothing like 21, 4,5,6
BUT they were not in charge
Uncle Chuck Bowen also got jobs, grants, favors for the Tom Churches
(remember the prayer give us our DALEY BREAD)

Carol Marin is a joke

Mara Georges is a sick, lying, hypocritical woman

CAROL MARIN IS A JOKE BUT I DON'T THINK MEANS BAD

MARA GEORGES HAD PERJURED HERSELF
ALSO THE CONTRACTS TO SHEFSKY AND REYES ARE NOT THE LOWEST PRICE OR BEST QUALITY

the black folks in city government are just like the ones in Hot Rods government they got titles but no power !!!!!!

To summarize the writing style of Mary Mitchell:

Insert Subject du Jour Here : ___________

BLAH BLAH BLAH Racism BLAH BLAH BLAH Racist BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH White Folk BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH Supression BLAH BLAH BLAH Racist Tendences BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Why is eveything a racism issue with this woman? Now she's upset that African-Americans didn't get their share of graft?

C'mon! If anything, it shows that perhaps they were smart enough to stay away from the corruption that's going on. If someone were to write the same thing about some other ethnicity or race, I think most would deem the author to be quite foolish.

Mary, stop trying to invent faux civil rights causes to make yourself relevant. Quit while you're ahead.

Mary Mitchell is one of the finest? We are truly in a sad state. With her, it is all race all the time. Of course, any issue can be looked at with respect to race, but it doesn't always make the most sense. I guess the current incarnation of Sneed, the gossip queen is another fine example of female IL journalisim.
