Sun Times on Sharpton in Chicago

May surprize some readers here, but I'm with Sharpton on this one. The GOP, the Greens, heck the Communist (Sun Times wrote more in 2007 than the Peoples Weekly World), go quiet about CPD and brutality. So bring on Sharpton.

Let's just see if Commissoner Beavers has it right,
Meanwhile, Cook County Commissioner William Beavers, a former South Side alderman, predicted Sharpton and the Rev. Jesse Jackson -- whose Rainbow/PUSH Coalition is based in Chicago -- would soon be at each other's throats.

"I don't know if the city is big enough for Rev. Jackson and Rev. Sharpton," Beavers said. "I don't have too much confidence in [Sharpton]. I think he's gonna be in a big fight with Jesse."
PS I don't include the Democrats in the list I expect to call out the city on police brutality because they run the Department and unlike the days of Congressman Ralph Metcalf, they all seem to have made their peace with the status quo one-way-or-the-other in the name of Chicago's never looked better.

PS2 I wonder if Beavers meant the city isn't big enough for Sharpton and Obama. It really seems Sharpton's thumbing his nose at Obama.

Obama has been silent on Jon Burge maybe as a favor to Daley.

The Burge thing is exploding and more information is coming out.

Al Sharpton will be like gasoline on the fire. I am not a fan of Sharpton but maybe he will do some good in highlighting important issues that everyone is ignoring because how powerful Daley is.

If Daley didn't want Sharpton to come he should of dealt with these issues.

LOL. Da mare is capable of so much. Now he's manipulating a presidential candidate for his 3\/1L purposes!

Actually, I'd hazard a guess that Obama, like most real life actual Chicagoans doesn't actually give a shit about a couple of murderers who had cattle prods stuffed in uncomfortable places.

You have to remember: The majority of America wants to look the other way on stuff like this. Having it be the pet issue of a tiny minority of kooks and nuts just makes it easier. So bring on Al Sharpton, I say. Taint every and any accomplishment you can garner with some race baiting political hack.

Dan, I must disagree with you. I am not a kook or a nut, nor a Death Penalty ban advocate, nor any other anti police.
I am glad when they catch bad people.
But as someone who has served our country and seen combat, Chicago Police nor anyone else should be putting cattle prods on US Citizens.

You are innocent until proven guilty.
The Constitution bans cruel and unusual punishment.

It does not seem like Daley was a real leader on this.

Maybe you are one of the fractional people who might actually care: And in that case, all 3 of you can sit their and yuck up how you've attracted the most prolific race baiter of our day to take up headline space for the next few months.

But of course, my guess is that you don't really care. Like anybody else who's recently developed a soft spot for murderers and baby rapers, your reasoning is very simple: you really really hate da mare.

And under that rubric, all this accomplishes is sending Daley for a political theater showdown vs. Al Sharpton, which Al is going to lose or at the most - maybe get it a draw.

  5. As a guy who spends times in taverns, those cops beating people in taverns, kinda hits close to home for me.

    That's not in jest either.

But more seriously, if you've ever managed people with authority over other people, you know you have to act quick before this behavior gets entrenched. It only takes a handfull of people to intimated everyone and before you know it you have big problem on your hands.

Sadly the natural reaction of leaders is almost always to bury these incidents. We have examples of it every day... let it go though and the whole institution gets corrupted and the victims include the decent people working alongside the abusers.

It's the vast majority of good cops in Chicago who suffer alot here.

Sharpton's hardly my favorite guy but sometimes it takes someone like this to shake thinks up when the entire system closes down.

Maybe Pfleger is right in the ST column, but he's a grand stander too.

The CPD hasn't been fixed as far as I can tell.

Daley looked the other way as Burge tortured suspects. I bet Dan's perspective would be much different if his relatives or friends were the ones being tortured.

Police brutality needs to be confronted head on to restore trust and to protect the reputations of honest, ethical policemen. Dan L, do you really believe that wanting to stop police brutality is the province of "kooks and nuts"? If so I cannot believe Rich Miller allows a nut like you to post your drivel here.

As the Rev Al Sharpton would say “Lets keep it Real” Dan speaks for a lot of people who don’t care what the police do so long as it don’t effect them, kick ass in the minority communities and bust all the darkies doing/selling crack and slap a felony on them, but to the poor white middle/upper class people that we bust we have to get them in a drug program. Dan I is “Keeping it Real” from his perspective, he is either from a cop family or is a police/fire fan/groupie.

If your really interested in the mentality of the Chicago Police Department you should real this book written by a former Chicago Cop. http://brotherhoodofcorruption.com/

  9. I think Dan is a "Liberal" of today's sort.

Which ought to give real Liberal's some pause to think.

The problem with Conservatives and their talk of getting government off people's back is they don't jump in on a case where government's at work; cattle-prod in hand.

Rev. Al will not be silent about sadomasochism and coerced homo-erotic sexual humiliation as techniques for police to get confessions.

Bill, you could get your ass kicked in any tavern by a police officer or a yoga instructor. I'm certain that the latter would have just as little of a problem doing so. If you're going to try to somehow make alleged police brutality relevant to you, please try to do so in a not so transparent way. That makes you seem like a suburban busy body.

Unfortunately for gold coast steve, there's just a few problems:

He's singling out me for not giving a shit, when clearly it's not just me. It's the entire city that couldn't care any less - save for those transplant residents of a precious few neighborhoods. that coincidentally, the vast majority of Chicagoans couldn't give any less of a shit about either.

As for me being a liberal? Whoooooowhat?

Once again: when the spokespersons for your ideology are:

    1. Aaron Patterson - A man who's so obviously a criminal, that the first thing he did when he was wrongly pardoned was go out and get more guns and more drugs so he could go out and kill more people.

    2. Al Sharpton - New York race baiter whom nobody takes seriously.

    3. The Uptown People's Law Firm

I don't have a problem saying that it's entirely the province of the Daley deranged or the flat out deranged.

Danny -- Those three do not speak for me. I don't know who, besides yourself, appointed them spokespeople for those opposed to police brutality.

You are saying that anyone who is against police brutality is rabidly anti-Daley or a deranged human being. Todd Stroger would be shocked to hear he's anti-Daley: http://tinyurl.com/yut37c

When is Daley going to sit for that deposition as promised during the campaign? He must be afraid to reveal something.

Again, your perspective on police brutality would be much different if you or someone close to you bore the brunt of the abuse.

But you 4 sure do say the same thing.

Again, your perspective on police brutality would be much different if you or someone close to you bore the brunt of the abuse.

Well seeing as neither myself nor anybody I know is a murderous thug. How about you? What kind of company do you keep?

Opposing police brutality does not mean I hang around with thugs, and agreeing with people on certain issues does not mean they speak for me. You desperately need a class in logical thinking.

Meanwhile I'm looking forward to any further comments that deranged, anti-Daley freak Todd Stroger has regarding police brutality. Yeah, he really has it out for Daley, doesn't he?

Dan I think Sharpton is a joke but it seems like the local African American Pols are not as outraged as they should be that this torture from the 70's;s 80's 90's is not being addressed, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Dan L is a very disturbed person.

Please look on his own website/blog
    www.moveonandshutup.com

    Look in the archives.

    Look at his opinions.

He is very pro-Jon Burge and pro-torture--there is no other way to say it.

Luckily it looks like he averages 1 comment per week.

Sharpton might get Daley to finally fess up and close out some of the Burge stuff.

13 million on his politically connected defense lawyers including the former Sheriff's son and Prosecutors who took coerced confessions is tooooo much.
Lots of conflicts of interest, lying and maybe illegal actions.
