PS2 I wonder if Beavers meant the city isn't big enough for Sharpton and Obama. It really seems Sharpton's thumbing his nose at Obama.

Al Sharpton will be like gasoline on the fire. I am not a fan of Sharpton but maybe he will do some good in highlighting important issues that everyone is ignoring because how powerful Daley is.
If Daley didn't want Sharpton to come he should of dealt with these issues.

Actually, I'd hazard a guess that Obama, like most real life actual Chicagoans doesn't actually give a shit about a couple of murderers who had cattle prods stuffed in uncomfortable places.
You have to remember: The majority of America wants to look the other way on stuff like this. Having it be the pet issue of a tiny minority of kooks and nuts just makes it easier. So bring on Al Sharpton, I say. Taint every and any accomplishment you can garner with some race baiting political hack.

But more seriously, if you've ever managed people with authority over other people, you know you have to act quick before this behavior gets entrenched. It only takes a handfull of people to intimated everyone and before you know it you have big problem on your hands.
Sadly the natural reaction of leaders is almost always to bury these incidents. We have examples of it every day... let it go though and the whole institution gets corrupted and the victims include the decent people working alongside the abusers.
It's the vast majority of good cops in Chicago who suffer alot here.
Sharpton's hardly my favorite guy but sometimes it takes someone like this to shake thinks up when the entire system closes down.
Maybe Pfleger is right in the ST column, but he's a grand stander too.
The CPD hasn't been fixed as far as I can tell.
Daley looked the other way as Burge tortured suspects. I bet Dan's perspective would be much different if his relatives or friends were the ones being tortured.

As the Rev Al Sharpton would say “Lets keep it Real” Dan speaks for a lot of people who don’t care what the police do so long as it don’t effect them, kick ass in the minority communities and bust all the darkies doing/selling crack and slap a felony on them, but to the poor white middle/upper class people that we bust we have to get them in a drug program. Bill, you could get your ass kicked in any tavern by a police officer or a yoga instructor. I'm certain that the latter would have just as little of a problem doing so. If you're going to try to somehow make alleged police brutality relevant to you, please try to do so in a not so transparent way. That makes you seem like a suburban busy body.
