We will be allowed to continue to lay our golden eggs and remain relatively free, despite the complete control of all three branches of Illinois state government by Democrats.
That’s assuming weak-kneed Republicans in Springfield don’t provide the votes to raise our taxes during the summer.
It reminds me of what French King Louis XIV's Exchequer Jean-Baptiste Colbert said:
"The art of taxation is like plucking a goose: to get the most feathers with the least amount of hissing."Maybe yesterday's blue moon had an effect on the Democrats.
Yes, we're left with the kind of tax structure that conservatives love: one that is unfairly placed on the middle class through the sales tax and a flat income tax. Republians everywhere can rejoice. Once again the middle class gets squeezed so that millionaires won't have to pay their fair share!
ReplyDeleteYou obviously were not around when State Senator Richie Daley led the fight--which I joined, even in his fly-around--to eliminate the state sales tax on food and drugs.
ReplyDeleteI would have voted to eliminate for municipalities and counties, as well.
So, I guess, anon, you should levy some criticism on village, city and county officials for not being willing to tax those items that place an unfair burden on those with lower incomes.
