GOPUSA ILLINOIS Daily Clips - July 25, 2008

CBS2
-- FROM THE ARTICLE: State Rep. Jim Durkin says it's unlikely Thursday's speech in Berlin will help Obama here in the U.S. "I don't think so. It's hundreds of thousands of people cheering him on who are anti-American," Durkin said. "The country's had anti-American sentiments for years." . . . McCain's Illinois co-chair, Rep. Jim Durkin, said recent polling here in DuPage County showed McCain and Obama in a dead heat. While better than they expected, any Republican needs to win big here to have any hope of winning statewide.

(THE LETTER: Funny editorial, but even talk show hosts need to have some modicum of integrity and an ability to understand issues ["Suggesting new career for bumbling gov is no easy job," July 18]. I really do hope our children ultimately find your piece funny as well, when they grow up and contemplate what kind of state and country we leave them, given the political leadership we put in office. We take junior congressmen who have alderman fathers-in-law and little experience (none actually managing anything) and put them in an important office where management is key. Come to think of it, maybe you should re-examine your editorial position on the presidential race as well in light of the mistakes of the current governor. Putting into the presidency someone who has never worked in the private sector, let alone ever occupied a management position with any hint of responsibility, would seem to be repeating the same mistake.)
