Il-14th: Wealthy Scientist Trying to Buy a Seat in Congress

Jotham Stein's newest video. It you get points for humor in an election, this has to win a few. He could be a stand up comic. Stein made a joke at the League of Women voters debate about the head of the Kane County Democratic Party fumbling pronouncing his first name.

LOL. Great video--and pretty effective, too!

Made me wonder how much Blair Hull's spending during the 04 Senate Race would have bought.

A D, but interesting positions on economic growth, taxation, military, intelligence, and national security.

Out of curiosity, who's working with him? Pretty effective stuff.

A 'Super Wealthy Scientist'... Sounds like the dude should have a lair...

I have no dog in this fight, but I thought this ad was unbelievably lame. A guy who obviously doesn't get out much (I went myself to see what 40.32 would buy because otherwise I didn't have a clue) goes to the store. He doesn't tie his visit in with any issues (like prices are rising and that's why my tax plan will help...). He just attacks his opponent for being a financially successful scientist.

Now I haven't seen polling on this, but I know scientists are far more respected than say lawyers or businesspeople. People associate scientists with doing things like curing diseases, so I suspect people will think that if a scientist made money, he's probably pretty smart and did some good things.

All in all, a very lame effort.

He just attacks his opponent for being a financially successful scientist.

Foster's fortune is from selling stage-light fixtures, not science....

But he IS financially successful. And he IS a scientist. Ergo, CC's point stands, does it not?

Foster was a government scientist at a Federal Lab, and successful or not, he didn't make his fortune that way.

He made it moonlighting with his stage-light company... as I understand it.

Based on Foster's resignation letter from Fermi Lab, he may have been smarter to stick with the bulbs,

...I also realize that my voice will not be heard, since after years of insisting that unpleasant technical realities be respected in strategic planning in HEP, I find myself branded as a troublemaker with an axe to grind.

CC, you truly ARE a cynic! LOL

You're obviously right in that he doesn't discuss issues and does take a jab at his opponent, but the point is that his ad lured me into going to see what's on his web site. And I can assure you that that seldom happens anymore--I can't remember when I last visited someone's site because I used other sources to ID their positions.

what I found on the website after being "lured in" by the ad was very interesting. He clearly states his positions and some are a little unusual for a D (and quite refreshing I might add).

BTW, I have no horse in this race either and don't even live in the District. It was a curiosity that, through this guy, has made the race even more intriguing!

Interesting that the guy hits his opponent for being wealthy and spending money, as he gets out of his Japanese-built Lexus to go to this store.

Food for thought.

Good call. LOL

From a woman's point of view, I must have been too perplexed by watching a guy sort of unpack groceries--without having a single opportunity to nag at him for buying a wrong item--that I didn't even notice what he was driving!

Overall, the whole concept behind the video(guy, groceries, PAPER bags, parking lot, cart, politics) obviously confused me terribly and that's why I think I visited his website, knowing fully that he must not even be a Republican. (Gosh I'm glad I'm posting under "Annonymous" today. LOL)
